With its shape, clasp and screw motif, Cartier revolutionised jewellery for lovers by creating the LOVE bracelet in New York in 1969. A reflection of an era, it embraced a new freedom in love, sealed with a screwdriver. With the LOVE bracelet, falling in love became a radical adventure, an incentive to take up the challenges of love.

The cultural impact of this vision of love is carried on by LOVE Unlimited, the latest creation in the LOVE collection. This fully flexible bracelet wraps around the body like a love connection that can be attached to another bracelet, in pairs or infinitely, for a limitless love.

Ergonomic, elegant and intensely precious, the LOVE Unlimited bracelet has all the appeal of jewellery.
A true feat of innovation, from the first design to its final production this flexible, second-skin version took more than a hundred trials and prototypes by the Manufacture and the Maison’s design studios.

Of the original bracelet be reinvented? By imagining a bracelet with multiple gadrooned links punctuated by LOVE’s characteristic, entirely hand-polished screws that intensify the dazzling effect. A jewelled cadence, between the verticality of the gadroons and the roundness of the screws, spaced differently for each size of the bracelet to preserve the harmony and proportion of the design.

That is easy to put on and take off, and for which Cartier has devised a patent-pending invisible clasp system. Operated by a screw, it integrates perfectly with the bracelet, literally fusing with it. All you can see is a ribbon of gold made up of 200 specially miniaturised components that eliminate the need for cuts and links, and guarantee comfort and suppleness when worn. This new version of LOVE lets you connect with each other thanks to its clasp, to which you can attach another bracelet, making a pair, or an endless amount. A bracelet that can be exchanged and split into two, in white, rose or yellow gold. A new way of embracing the LOVE gesture – flowing, intimate and sensorial.

This inspiring new version comes in a ring that reproduces, on a small scale, all the distinctive features of the bracelet: gadroons, sophistication and precious sparkle.

LOVE is the story of a jewellery icon, an oval bracelet created in 1969 at the height of a cultural and artistic revolution. A veritable jewellery manifesto imagined by the designer Aldo Cipullo for Cartier New York, a key player on the creative scene, that imposed a radical and innovative motif by leaving the bracelet screws visible. It soon became the subject of an emblematic advertisement featuring the hands of a woman and a man each wearing their LOVE, which was published in the major New York newspapers. It became a sensation.

Its simple, unisex, identifiable design allows it to evolve in every way: set with diamonds, in a ring version, small, medium, as a pendant or dotted with stones, in white gold, multiplied by two or more, right up to the very latest LOVE Unlimited.

A new symbolic gesture that cultivates the same ideal of love as the original LOVE bracelet. It’s a powerful vision, a liberating force favoured by lovers, to whom Cartier has dedicated a campaign between Paris and New York.

Alone in the world, they are protected by the Panther, who empowers them with its boldness and creativity. The Panther’s gaze is Cartier’s vision of the world, strengthening and transforming their bond and commitment.

In 2023, Arab Watch Club embarked in its 3rd collaboration with the prestigious Maison Cartier, to celebrate a very important milestone in its 10th years since inception. As you all know, we kicked off in 2019 the first ever Special Order program in the world with Cartier with our Santos Dumont and Santos in Rose and White Gold and Salmon dial. We followed that a year later with our Pasha in Red and Arabic numerals and today, we have our third project, but this time a very unique Cartier Privee piece: the Tank Asymetrique.

The design elements of the watch have several inspirations – if we looked at the color of the dial , it is British green guillochee dial that has similar colors to the Crash I have created 2 years ago ; I wanted to maintain the same color codes throughout these Privee models.

The watch cases are either Platinum or Yellow Gold, giving our members the choice to two different contrasts but also catering for those who cannot wear Gold in general

The most striking and important element of the watch is the design of the numerals; these are the original Arabic numerals that have been introduced by Al Khawarizmi and they are based on geometrical shapes that indicate the number based on the count of angles in each shape!! This is a first for watchmaking to use such design for its numerals and we wanted to pioneer in that regards in our special order.

In total we have commissioned 15 watches : 9 of which were yellow gold and 6 are platimum. Each watch has been numbered and is indicated in its case back – each member has his own favorite number and engraving on its case back as well.

In over 5 years since 2019; the Arab Watch Club has commissioned 3 Special orders with Cartier in total; with almost 100 pieces that have been delivered to every proud member of the club and continuing our strong relationship with Maison Cartier and maintaining a level of trust and loyalty that we admire. Who knows what the future holds for us- perhaps something new is coming our way …. again!!!

Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design is co-curated by Judith Henon-Raynaud, Chief Curator and Deputy Director of the Department of Islamic Art at the Musée du Louvre and Évelyne Possémé, Former Chief Curator of Ancient and Modern Jewellery at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, with the assistance of Fakhera Alkindi, Senior Curatorial Assistant at Louvre Abu Dhabi. This exhibition builds upon a project titled Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity (Paris-Dallas 2021-2022), which was initially conceived and co-organised by the Dallas Museum of Art and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, with the exceptional collaboration of the Musée du Louvre and the support of Maison Cartier. The exhibition was curated by Heather Ecker, Judith Henon-Raynaud, Évelyne Possémé and Sarah Schleuning.

At the turn of the 20th century, the organisation of major exhibitions dedicated to Islamic art and the massive arrival of works, particularly Persian and Indian paintings and manuscripts, led to the development of a true Persian fashion in Paris.

Louis Cartier, grandson of the founder of the Maison, was deeply intrigued by these artistic traditions that he discovered in the Parisian art market. In search of new sources of inspiration, he enriched the Maison’s study library with the latest publications dedicated to Islamic arts and architecture. This library would be an endless source of patterns for the Maison’s designers, possibly the original source. In the 1910s, Louis Cartier initiated a personal collection of Islamic art, which he made available to the Maison’s designers. In 1911, his brother Jacques Cartier travelled to India to reinforce ties with maharajas, and to the Arabian Gulf region to investigate the pearl market. The discovery of the patterns and shapes in architecture, artworks, and literature unlocked a new realm of modern artistic expression for the Maison, right up to the artistic direction of Jeanne Toussaint and even today.

The exhibition’s chapters explore the Maison’s sources of inspiration and its creative process through over 400 objects from the collections of Louvre Abu Dhabi, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Musée du Louvre, and Cartier Collection and Archives, as well as exceptional loans from Petit Palais, Musée des Beaux-Arts de la ville de Paris and other lenders, spanning masterpieces of Islamic art, jewellery, drawings, design sketches, miniatures, textiles, photographs and archival material.

Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, said: “As the first universal museum in the Arab World, Louvre Abu Dhabi seeks to broaden our visitors’ perspectives by bringing unique art and cultural experiences to Abu Dhabi. Through this exhibition, and thanks to the precious loans from our partners – Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Musée du Louvre and many other lenders, our visitors will not only be able to discover new connections between cultures and gain a better understanding of modernity, but they will also be inspired by the rich technicalities and unique materials of Islamic art, architecture and Cartier jewellery on display. The Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design exhibition at Louvre Abu Dhabi is also a testament to a longstanding and successful partnership between our institution and Cartier.”

Exhibition curators Judith Henon-Raynaud and Évelyne Possémé, said: “This exhibition is the result of almost five years of research in archives, drawings and photographs to discover the links between Cartier creations and Islamic art, and to identify the sources of inspiration. The result is a true immersion into the creative process and a journey through the sources that inspired some of the most innovative pieces in French jewellery. The exhibition allows us to understand the importance of the discovery of Islamic art for artists at the beginning of the 20th century, and the way in which this aesthetic influence was at the origin of many masterpieces produced in Europe, and a real fashion phenomenon. We hope that this exhibition will be the first of many to bring this history to light and pave the way for many other discoveries.”

Guilhem André, Acting Director of Curatorial, Scientific and Collection Management Department at Louvre Abu Dhabi, said: “Cross-cultural influence has always been central to the narrative of Louvre Abu Dhabi, evident in both our permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions. The exhibition Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design is a prime example of this, showcasing how the past continues to inspire the present. We have seen our visitors deeply appreciate the craftsmanship and ornamental beauty of Islamic art over the years. With this exhibition, featuring previously unseen works, visitors will be able to delve into the creative process behind the craftsmanship that combines the rich heritage of Islamic art with the creative innovations of the 20th century Parisian workshops. It also presents an exciting opportunity to engage various audiences, particularly the growing design community in the UAE.”

Pierre Rainero, Image, Style and Heritage Director at Cartier, commented: “Islamic art has played a significant and structural impact on Cartier’s creative language since the beginning of the 20th century. This vocabulary continues to grow even today, thanks to the richness of geometric patterns and their many combinations. This exhibition underscores the living language of the Cartier style, and in turn highlights how important jewellery is to the artistic field. Cartier’s true pioneering spirit is also revealed, along with the role the Maison played in the birth of modernity at the start of the 20th century.”

Highlights from Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection displayed in the exhibition include a wooden Carved ivory panel with scrolls (1334 – 1339, Cairo, Egypt); a Dish with a blue Saz leaf, dotted tulips and roses (ca. 1580, Iznik, Turkey); a Glass vessel in the shape of a mosque lamp by Joseph Brocard (1871, Paris, France). Masterpieces from Musée des Arts Décoratifs include a Basin by Théodore Deck (1863, Paris, France) and a binding and title page of the Rubaiyat by Omar Khayyam (1912, Paris, France). Highlights of loans from Musée du Louvre include a Fragment of a mosaic panel with geometric decoration (14 – 15th century), Three tiles from a wall panel (1550 – 1600, Damascus, Syria), a Pen box said to have belonged to Mirza Muhammad Munshi and a Pen box in the name of Shah Abbas (late 16th – early 17th century, Deccan, India) and a Casket (19th century, Iran).
Cartier has been a longstanding supporter of Louvre Abu Dhabi. In 2019, the 10,000 Years of Luxury exhibition featured iconic pieces on loan from the Cartier Collection. Also, Louvre Abu Dhabi presented USO, The Perfumed Cloud (USO = Unidentified Scented Object), an olfactory art installation, created by Maison Cartier’s in-house perfumer Mathilde Laurent and Transsolar Klima Engineering.

One of the world’s premier luxury jewelers since the nineteenth century, Cartier evokes a world of artistry and beauty, a legacy of unequaled prestige. By 1909, Cartier was the first international jeweler of its time, with boutiques in Paris, London and New York, and warrants as official supplier to many royal courts. Cartier established a unique network founded on exceptional knowledge of the precious gemstone market and developed a revolutionary style that has proven timeless, a refined language capturing each era’s ephemeral nature, from sober restraint to enthusiastic opulence.

With its synthesis of technical ability and artistic sensitivity, global perspective and exacting perfection, Cartier has ensured its continuing client loyalty and enduring renown.
Cartier’s cosmopolitan clientele, comprising strong women of character, refined esthetes and intellectual minds, from Jean Cocteau to Alberto Santos-Dumont, from the Maharaja of Nawanagar to the Duchess of Windsor, from Gloria Swanson to Elizabeth Taylor, have served as catalysts of renewal and stylistic influencers.

Les Rééditions are watches that are sought after by collectors and presented as close as possible to their original format. The product of Cartier’s singular vision, they represent milestones in its watchmaking history and celebrate both its watchmaking forms and its heritage. This approach takes the form of aesthetic designs produced in limited and numbered series that Cartier chooses to reveal to its collector customers around unexpected moments.

Les Rééditions de Cartier were launched in 2021 with the Pasha Calendrier Perpétuel and the Tank Cintrée in yellow gold, produced in a limited edition of 150 to mark its centenary, followed by the Pebble watch in 2022, which celebrated its 50th anniversary with Cartier.

Today, the Maison is returning to the Tank Cintrée, the first known evolution of the original Tank of 1917, which appeared in 1921 and established the rectangle in the world of Tank shapes as a result of research into aesthetics and function. Thanks to the curves and slenderness of its rounded case, the watch elegantly hugs the wrist.

Today, Cartier is offering an even rarer and more precious version of a cult combination: platinum—a prestigious material that is difficult to work with—and ruby, set in a cabochon on the winding crown. The choice of materials is all the more appropriate given that this creation celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Tank Cintrée watch in platinum.

The case has been refined and is now a remarkable 6.03 mm thick. It houses a movement with manual winding, the calibre 9780 MC. Rail tracks, Roman numerals, apple-shaped blued hands, “eggshell” dial and a pin buckle—all the watchmaking hallmarks of the Maison are there, renewing and confirming the Tank Cintrée’s place in Cartier’s heritage.

The final touch of refinement on this creation, produced in an edition of 150 numbered pieces, is the play of finishes on the brancards, polished on the verticals and matte on the horizontals.

Today, we are sharing with you Arab Watch Club’s latest project with Cartier and one that is very dear to our heart.

It has been almost 5 years since we first approached Cartier with our idea of creating a club special order and opened the pandora’s box for many more clubs to do the same.

In 2023, we have worked together with Cartier on an edition from the Privee family and one that could not be more classier than the Asymetrique – The new Tank Asymetrique for AWC has several elements and details that position it as a very unique piece in the watch world!

Al Khawarzimi Numerals

IF you haven’t read about Al Khawarizmi, now is a good time to do it! He is a Muslim MAthematician who is the father of Algebra and the first one to bring the Arabic-Hindu numerals to the Western World. These numerals now considered Western numerals are actually the original Arabic numerals at that time and they were designed by him in a very smart and particular way.

Look closer at each number and how it is written… it is all in the ANGLES!!! Every number corresponds to the total of angles in its own shape.

We adopted these numerals that have never been used before in Horology and decided to make them the basis for our Edition.

In order to keep the right spacing on the dial and also not overcharge it, we opted to include even numbers only – the result was mesmerising.

The case and dial

There are only 2 cases available for this watch : Yellow Gold or Platinum, each offers a very distinct contrast with the Green dials.

The dial of the watch is a combination of British Green color on a Rosette guillochee that is very particular to Cartier with a seconds chemin de fer around the inner dial bringing back some vintage hints to the overall design.

The movement used is the Manufacture Manual Calibre 1917 MC with a closed case back and special engraving of the club and each owner’s name on it.

Very few pieces will be produced – this edition is the most limited ever produced from this model and we wanted to keep it very exclusive even with the club itself.

After a full year of design and preparation starting September 2021, we have finally received the first of the 50 special Edition Pasha de Cartier designed exclusively for our Arab Watch Club members.

The Pasha that we have chosen has been inspired by the Middle East Edition that was released in 2021 in Green with Arabic Numerals and Green leather strap. However, we decided to include our own touches to make the watch more unique and special for us; at first, the color of the dial is now Burgundy , more Cartier redish and the date wheel is in Arabic consistent with the numerals on the dial.

The special addition on the case side is the engraving we have commissioned with Hazem Kurdali; and it says: “Time is master of all” in Arabic , with the same color engraving as the dial; Red!!

The other exciting part of the project was the limited edition Santos SM pen we designed to match our watches – the idea was to use the same color of the dial on the body lacquer for the pen with additional Mashrabya engravings on all open sides from top, tip and pin – the final output is outstanding,

Each pen is numbered from 1 to 100 – and they accompany the watches in a special box – Pen and watches have the same matching numbers.

The project delivery will be in Dubai end of September for all AWC members where they will receive their special boxes in a closed event. We will keep you posted with more once all watches have been delivered and their owners have worn them.

2 years ago we started our first collaboration with Cartier and today we are proud to announce the second special order with the Pasha De Cartier AWC LE 50

Our Journey with Cartier started as you know in 2019, when we decided to create for the first time globally, a special order for Arab Watch Club redesigning the Santos Dumont and Santos de Cartier -> you can read about it here: Cartier

During our event at the beginning of the year, we sat down with the Cartier team and discuss a second project we wanted to collaborate on – this time using the iconic Pasha de Cartier. The twist was to make the design closer to the region and with attention to tiny details from numerals, dates, calligraphy and even pushing the boundaries to add an exclusive element to the offering.

We love to be the first to introduce such projects and we always thrived in all our collaborations to open the doors to our region and explore the unexplorable – for that matter, Cartier agreed to produce a very limited Stylo Santos SM pen for this project in only 100 pieces exclusively for Club members. This would count as the smallest pen edition ever made by the brand.

Let’s talk about the watch first.

The Pasha de Cartier comes in a steel case with a diameter of 41mm. It is 9,55mm thick and has a very unique Cartier red flinque dial with “Hindu Arabic” numerals for 12,3,6, and 9. Unlike the current Middle East edition, the AWC Pasha has also a arabic date wheel with the same dial color and numerals in silver to reinforce the contrast on the dial.

The fluted crown cap and crown are set with synthetic spinels, blued-steel diamond-shaped hands, steel bracelet with “SmartLink” adjustment system, second Cartier red alligator-skin strap, interchangeable steel deployant buckle. Both bracelets are fitted with the “QuickSwitch” interchangeability system. Water-resistant to 10 bar. The movement used is mechanical movement with automatic winding, caliber 1847 MC.

Looking on the left side of the watch we can observe a very unique calligraphy done in collaboration with young syrian calligraphy Hazem Kurdali, who has worked on our LIFE Hoffman edition before. The sentence says “الوقت معلم من لا معلم له ” and is an expression of how time is master of all no matter who you are and where you are from – it is a statement that keeps you humble and mindful of how precious time is.

Only 50 individually numbered have been produced and each owner has his initials/name engraved on the watch.

Now what about the pen

As I mentioned earlier, this project brings another first to the world of Horology and collaborations – we are proud to have crossed the boundaries and designed a special Stylo Santos SM with Cartier that reflects the same elements as our watch – the pen has a red laquer body and a Mashrabya pattern all over its silver parts that is quiet prevalent in our design and architecture in the region. the pin/ screw on the pen is in blue sapphire similarly to the crown on the watch. – both together complement each other in perfect harmony. Only 100 pens have been produced, individually numbered and allocated to the watch owners and club members.

Both watch and pen will be delivered towards summer 2022. Meanwhile, the club members are going on a manufacture visit to the heart of Cartier to explore their wonders and craftsmanship. We will report back to you shortly on our visit. Stay tuned.

January 24, 2019: a date to be remembered for the Club history. Why?

It was the first time the Cartier Middle East CEO and the club members meet over a dinner organised by Cartier for the Arab Watch Club. It is during this dinner that the seed for this edition have been planted!

2 years later and here we are releasing the first ever collaboration between Cartier and a Watch Club worldwide. The project was supposed to be completed in June 2020 but of course COVID19 had another plan for us. 7 months later, we are back and this time, we can say : We did it!

The idea of a special edition with a luxurious and reputable brand such as Cartier is a goal we have had for several years before we started our serious discussions in 2019. The club has been involved in over 13 special editions throughout its 5 years since inception and it was the right time to collaborate with the Maison.

We drew our inspiration for this project from the Santos Dumont 90th anniversary that was made from platinum with a very light salmon dial – classy, elegant and timeless.

This is exactly what we wanted for the Cartier project: A gentleman’s watch , an expression of classiness , an unforgettable statement piece – but most importantly, a FIRST in the watch community: First Watch Club and First one to achieve this in the region.

You might ask yourself why is this so important for us? the answer is simple: we always want to be the club that breaks the barriers, open doors, create opportunities and lead by example! It is our mark that we would like to leave in the Horological world.

The choice of the watch was also strategic: the Santos is the first men wrist watch to be ever created in 1904 by Louis Cartier; it is an icon in the watch industry and among collectors; there is not better choice than the Santos to commemorate such partnership between Cartier and AWC.

AWC Santos de Cartier

The first two models of this special edition are from the Large Santos family; both Rose Gold and White Gold, with a ADLC coated steel bezel with white gold or rose gold screws. Case width: 39.8 mm, thickness: 9.08 mm. Water-resistant to 10 bar

The dial is a unique salmon shade designed for this edition with blue steel hands. 7-sided crown set with a facetted sapphire. The strap is alligator or calfskin (both options provided), with interchangeable buckle.

The movement is mechanical movement with automatic winding, calibre 1847 MC. Close caseback with engravings including “Arab Watch Club” , every collector’s name and his number of the edition.

AWC Santos Dumont

The third model of this special edition is the Extra Large Santos Dumont in Rose Gold with a ADLC coated steel bezel with rose gold screws. Manufacture mechanical movement with manual winding, calibre 430 MC. 18K rose gold case,

Case dimensions: 46.6 mm x 33.9 mm, thickness: 7.5 mm. Water-resistant to 3 bar (approx. 30 metres).

The dial is a unique salmon shade designed for this edition with blue steel sword-shaped hands, sapphire crystal, beaded crown set with a sapphire cabochon.

Grey alligator-skin strap and 18K rose gold ardillon buckle. Close caseback with engravings including “Arab Watch Club” , every collector’s name and his number of the edition.

This is only the beginning of a long relationship with the Maison; so stay tuned for what’s coming next!

For the First time in the Middle East, Cartier has decided to privatize its entire exhibition under Burj Khalifa to welcome the AWC members to an exclusive dinner with the new CEO of MENA.

The exhibition set top by Cartier was to celebrate 100 years of Santos where they have recreated the story of how the legendary watch came about to creation. If you are not aware of the story, let me shed some light on its in a quick summary.

In 1906, Brazilian-Franco Albert Santos Dumont flew from Paris’ Château De Bagatelle in an aircraft fitted with a wheeled undercarriage and made a controlled landing – no crash, achieving history. Whilst celebrating his achievement, he met his friend Louis Cartier and complained about having to reach out to his pocket watch during the flight- Booom!! the Santos Dumont Cartier was born! First Pilot wristwatch to be ever created.

Since then many variations and developments have surrounded this successful line leading us to where we are today and our private exhibition with Cartier.

Cartier recreated the 14bis flew by Santos in his first flight and installed it on top of our dinner table :).. Now that’s what I call dining in style.

During the evening, we had the chance to go over an animated history of the Santos flight and also have a look at some historical pieces of the famous line – of which the wonderful 90th anniversary Santos Dumont in platinum and salmon dial

Before moving on to our dinner with Christophe Massoni, we also had a look at the latest models introduced by Cartier in 2018 and 2019 – unfortunately the SIHH pieces were not yet in Dubai – however this will be left for another day to explore.

What also made this dinner quiet special is the fact that our members have flown from KSA, Kuwait and Bahrain to be with us in Dubai. For the club, it is quiet a proud achievement to be able to partner up with one of the most luxurious brands out there and have a very private and unique experience offered to our club members exclusively. It has also followed a special visit to the Cartier Manufacture in La Chaux De Fonds that I have had right after SIHH – however this needs another article to discuss the mesmerizing world of Cartier watchmaking.

You cannot have a collectors dinner without the usual wrist shots poses that we are all known for by now. It was a surprise I believe for Christophe when he saw 20+ arms being stretched to the max to reach each others fists in the most awkward yet traditional watch geeks shots – professional photographers were on alert mode and trying to find the best and longest chairs to support them in taking this marvelous aerial wrist-shot.

With this, I leave to enjoy our gallery and will be back soon to tell you more in depth about the Cartier manufacture experience and many many nitty gritty details that blew my mind in La Chaux de Fonds.
