September 10 and 11 mark two important days in the closure of my summer holidays. Whilst I have been spending some quiet and quality family time in Damascus for the month of August; I was eagerly waiting for the major summer end event hosted by Vacheron Constantin in London.
I have been invited along 5 other journalists covering the top publications in the Middle East to attend the exclusive launch of the Fiftysix collection from Vacheron and its first time unveiling of their tourbillon Rose Gold FiftySix new addition.
Our story begins in Soho at the Cafe Royal hotel where we all arrived in the afternoon – a wonderful hidden gem I must say with a lot of character that fits perfectly with the spirit of FiftySix. A very discreet and elegant hotel in a perfect central location.
Once settled in , we rushed into the lounge at the first floor to pick up our own fiftysix watches; luckily, I have been allocated the complete calendar in steel with a matching grey blueish leather strap. The color combination that you will soon realize matched every outfit I had with me for this event.
Our next stop was at the private gentleman club in Mayfair: LouLou’s where the CEO of Vacheron Constantin has introduced us to the latest collection and to the star of the night – the FiftySix Tourbillon. Luckily, I had the chance to spend sometime with the piece beforehand and review it on my own to get a better feel.
The execution on the case back is mesmerizing with the use of the outer ring rotor that keeps the entire movement open and visible to the eye. I personally enjoy watching Tourbillon watches from both sides and this structure makes it very possible to admire the details in all directions. The dial side is also very elegant using the alternating applied numerals and indexes – a good contrast for the eyes in a slightly bigger case than the average Fiftysix.
After spending a very nice evening at Loulou’s with the team, we decided to walk back to the hotel to end a very long day and also rest for a more action filled day coming up.
Tuesday morning was an eventful and unusual one in my normal life routine. I have signed up for a tailoring and whiskey tasting activity starting at 10am !!! Yes you heard that right; I went for a drink for breakfast!!
We headed to the most exclusive tailors on Saville Row; the ones that actually did the Kingsman’s suits for the movie and also where they filmed some of their scenes. The team took on us on a private tour around the facility and inside their tailoring rooms where all the magic happens to end up in their Private club lounge for our 4 whiskey bottles tasting.
Don’t worry , I didn’t get tipsy from the tasting; I knew I still had a long day and no time to rest; but it was a very pleasant experience and an interesting gentlemen posh activity. I fell in love with eggsy’s orange jacket but I still am not sure if I can pull it off – although I am known for being very adventurous when it comes to colors.
The lunch location was quiet the surprise as we stepped into a fully privatized park in central london where they had a tent set up with live food stations and a jazz band singing live. The mood was perfect, the vibe was chill, weather couldn’t have been better and everyone was having a great time. Sea food, light salads, wine, great watches and a great company .. what else could you have asked for.
Next destination was another very exclusive private club in Mayfair: Annabel’s where we were supposed to have a cigar pairing activity with the world champion sommelier Darius Namdar. Dairus presented to us his pairing combo that made him win this year’s championship in Cuba. El Rey del Mundo and Grand Marnier paired with a very special tea at the beginning to cleanse our palate. What was even more mesmerizing is the location itself – it was my first time at Annabel’s and the cigar lounge as well as the entire building is mind blowing – I even went to the bathroom to take some videos and post them on my instagram!!! Ya I know what you are thinking… Peasant!!
So far so good.. but the day is not over yet; not before the Gala dinner. We haven’t been informed about the location of the Gala beforehand – only when we stepped out of the car to the entrance of the iconic Abbey Road Studios that we understood what was going on. Have you heard of the Beatles? Adele? well this is where almost all their records have been created.
The reason why this location was chosen is because Vacheron Constantin and Abbey Studios have entered into a partnership signing with their first ambassador Benjamin Clementine as the face of FiftySix embodying its true artistic spirit and the sense of creativity and modern appeal. Later on in the evening , Benjamin performed to us some of his great records for an unforgettable night. This was our closure to a wonderful, very well executed and managed 2 days in London with the Vacheron Constantin team.
For me, this was only the beginning of my European journey that I will tell you about next time!
