This collaboration is more than fashion or watchmaking. It’s about vision. About how far you can strip something down to its essence. Both Hublot and Yohji Yamamoto have built their legacies on the same foundation: questioning the meaning of luxury. Both create through deconstruction. Hublot first broke Swiss tradition in 1980 with its Art of Fusion, blending gold with rubber, innovation with heritage. Since its debut at the Paris Fashion Week in 1981, Yohji Yamamoto redefined the conventions of fashion, using black as a response against excess and fashion’s norms.

For both creators, black is not absence, it is essence. Hublot pioneered the All Black concept in 2006, where light is defined by volume and texture, beyond its color. These pieces embody the fusion that Hublot is renowned for. The Manufacture transcends the boundaries of fashion and fine Swiss-Made watchmaking. It brings together trends seen in both men’s and women’s fashion in three new models. The Classic Fusion collection was chosen to feature this unique sage color. Wide open with an understated dial, it provides a generous backdrop that allows the color to express itself fully.

Three models are available: 33-, 42- and 45-mm diameter. A single family with a titanium case for lightweight wear, but three very different characters. For the first, in the 33-mm version, the accent is on preciousness. Simple yet brilliant, its bezel is set with 36 diamonds weighing 0.8 carat. Exuding a soft luster, the piece bridges the gap between the gray of titanium and the pastel green of sage. Aligned with Hublot’s way of doing things differently, with a subtle twist reminiscent of Milanese mesh: its 3D threads are woven at a 45° angle, producing a slightly asymmetrical effect in relation to the case’s profile. A feature of all three models, this is an offbeat touch that adds soul. The unisex version is powered by an automatic movement with a 48-hour power reserve.

The third version is available in a 45-mm case. This is the first chronograph with a sage green dial to be designed by Hublot. And its watchword: balance. The piece combines the sportiness of a chronograph with the softness of sage green. The new pastel tone harmonizes with the essential attributes of a Hublot chronograph, underscored by silver-toned counters with a circular snailed finish.

With the Big Bang Unico SR_A, Hublot and Samuel Ross open a new chapter in their partnership. For the first time, the SR_A design language is paired with the Unico Manufacture movement, bringing Ross’s industrial codes and Hublot’s most emblematic chronograph calibre together in one unified creation.

Limited to 200 pieces, the timepiece adopts a monochrome ceramic exterior and a newly developed honeycomb rubber strap, refining the design vocabulary established by the three previous SR_A tourbillon editions. Combining ceramic engineering, industrial geometry and the performance of the Unico movement, the Big Bang Unico SR_A offers a more widely available expression of the collaboration while remaining firmly anchored in Hublot’s Art of Fusion and Ross’s distinct identity.

The Big Bang Unico SR_A represents the evolution of a partnership built on structure, material innovation and contemporary industrial design. Since 2020, Hublot and Samuel Ross have developed a distinctive creative language through three SR_A Tourbillon editions.

The watch features a 42mm case in satin-finished and polished black ceramic, reflecting the bold geometry and modular construction of the Big Bang line. The choice of an all-black ceramic execution brings the SR_A back to a sleek, stripped-back aesthetic.

At the centre of the design is Samuel Ross’s signature honeycomb motif. Seen previously in the SR_A sculptures and earlier watch limited editions, the pattern appears here on a newly developed structured rubber strap created specifically for this reference. Lightweight, ergonomic and strongly architectural, it reinforces the industrial character of the SR_A series. “With the honeycomb, it was about taking information away from the watch to increase the lightness,” explains Ross.

The matte black skeleton dial exposes key Unico components, including the visible column wheel at 6 o’clock and the open chronograph mechanism. This transparency highlights the technical architecture of the HUB1280 calibre, which incorporates a flyback chronograph, silicon escapement and a 72-hour power reserve.

The move to a 200-piece limited edition marks a deliberate broadening of the collaboration. While earlier SR_A models were produced in smaller runs and centred around sculptural tourbillon constructions, the new Big Bang Unico SR_A introduces the artist identity into a more obtainable, more versatile format, aligning the partnership more closely with the wider Big Bang collection.

Novak sealed his 101st professional tournament victory in November last year, adding yet more glory to a stellar career that has seen him claim almost every record in the sport. Among his career statistics are a record 24 Grand Slams, 1 gold medal at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and a record 428 weeks as the world number one tennis player. He has also ended the year as world number one a record of eight times. No one else comes close.

There are three expressions of the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Novak Djokovic GOAT Edition, each of which fuses material innovation, technical mastery and Hublot’s unique watchmaking approach to tell the story of Novak’s incomparable professional tennis career.
The watch comes in three colors aligned to the familiar colors of tennis’s three playing surfaces, and each variant is offered in a numbered sequence to follow Novak’s wins on each surface. Accordingly, there will be 72 pieces in blue, symbolising Novak’s hard court wins; 21 in orange for his clay court wins; and, making it the most exclusive, eight in green for his wins on grass. The 101 watches are numbered but not limited. On the occasion of any future win, Hublot will add a further watch, colored according to the tournament surface.

The colors appear most prominently in the watch’s 44mm case, which is made of a special Hublot-developed composite made from Lacoste polos and Head tennis racquets.
This high-tech, lightweight, rigid, marbled material is exclusive to Hublot and was also used in the Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic of 2024. For this series, 12 blue polos, 4 in orange and 2 in green were needed to achieve the required volume of material, as well as 12 racquets. The result is a magical material infused with Novak’s spirit that will tell his story for eternity.

Alongside this is the case’s middle section, or container, which is formed from another advanced material called Titaplast®, the world’s strongest polymer. It has high-performance mechanical properties that are similar to titanium, can be machined to very fine tolerances, delivers an exceptional strength to weight ratio, and has a soft matte finish. It can also be colored using an anodisation process.

No strings attached
Novak’s incredible story continues in the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Novak Djokovic GOAT Edition’s movement, the highly conceptual MHUB6035 Automatic Tourbillon. In place of a traditional, solid mainplate to hold the movement components in place, Hublot’s engineers conceived an eye-catching three-dimensional lattice that takes the shape of tennis racquet strings. Each “string” is just 0.55mm thick and appears to be secured into the mainplate edge by attachment points that echo those found around the inner rim of a tennis racquet. The gaps between the strings are intentionally irregular, as they would be on a tennis racquet mid-match.

But while it may appear the mainplate is a series of individually twisted and weaved strings held in place by those attachment points, it is in fact a single piece, cleverly machined in a high-tech laser-engraving process.
Once it’s laser-engraved, the mainplate is then finished with a black PVD coating with a thickness of just a few microns, before Novak’s famous swooping personal “ND1” logo is printed over it in contrasting white. It’s visually mesmerising and a glorious metaphor for Novak’s uncompromising, winning mentality and his many career achievements.

That’s not where the story ends. The barrel containing the movement’s mainspring that delivers 72 hours of power reserve is topped by a steel rochet decorated to look like a tennis ball that can be seen through the underside of the latticed mainplate. To achieve this effect, Hublot’s engineers innovated another process. First, a rhodium polish is applied to two S-shaped curves that run across the wheel’s surface. Then, the surface around these is precision laser-engraved to create a textured look resembling that of a tennis ball. Finally, that surface is finished with a yellow-green lacquer to complete the tennis ball look.

Further elegant touches include the mouvement’s aluminium tourbillon cage, which has been anodized in either blue, orange or green to match the case color. At 12 o’clock, the watch’s rhodium-plated, 22-carat red gold micro-rotor is machined and laser-engraved to reveal the Hublot logo. The movement comprises a total of 293 components.
Over its latticed “string” mainplate, the watch has a thin layer of transparent sapphire crystal that serves as a palette for six applied hour markers. Like the skeletonised hour and minute hands, these are satin-finished and then coated in a three-dimensional layer of green luminescent Super-LumiNova® to ensure low-light legibility.

Next on court

Beyond these primary components, the watch continues to point to Novak’s illustrious career in tennis. The strap is made of a white leather with white stitching that is embossed so that it appears padded and patterned like the grip tape on tennis racquets. On the underside, the strap is lined with blue, orange or green leather to match the case. This is fastened by a Velcro® loop that folds through a color-matched anodized aluminium buckle.

The six titanium screws that hold the composite bezel in place are shaped like tennis balls. This might sound like a simple aesthetic twist, but as well as creating a bespoke programme for machining these unique screws, Hublot’s engineers had to design a special S-shaped screwdriver head that could tighten the screws, a process reminiscent of one developed previously for the Big Bang’s famous H-shaped screw heads.
The dial ring, crown, remaining case screws and Hublot “One-Click” quick-strap change system pushers are all in anodized aluminium. To underline the steeliness and strength Novak is famed for, the crystal used both on the front and back of the watch is chemically strengthened Gorilla Glass, a highly durable, scratch-resistant material.The watch is supplied with a second strap in white rubber with a titanium deployant clasp for use during exercise.
To complete the story, the case back is held in place by a colored aluminium ring carrying the edition number, which initially will be 1 to 72 in blue, 1 to 21 in orange and 1 to 8 in green. Further numbered pieces will be added when Novak adds another title to his career total. The case back also carries the words “Greatest of All Time”. These details are all engraved and finished in white lacquer.

Together, these elements result in a watch weighing only 56 grammes, and that has been designed to withstand the forces a watch experience when worn during play. It’s a highly inventive, memorable tribute to Hublot Ambassador Novak Djokovic, the GOAT.

A delicate alchemy is at play here, with Hublot seeking to combine its mineral depth with its natural brilliance.

A solid dial with geometric patterns adorns these two watches for the first time: the 43-mm Big Bang Original Unico and the 42-mm Spirit of Big Bang. They share a common feature: a dial inspired by the pattern of carbon fiber. It weaves a color chart with alternating satin-finished and polished squares, with a reworked 3D effect to give it more depth and a new geometry.

The Big Bang Original Unico is powered by the Unico Manufacture chronograph flyback caliber, with a three-day power reserve. The Spirit of Big Bang itself is powered by the high-frequency HUB4700 movement oscillating at 5 Hz (36,000 vib/h). Both pieces proudly display their shared DNA: titanium case, rubber strap, One-Click interchangeable system and titanium deployant buckle, bezel featuring six distinctive H-shaped screws, characteristically non-aligned for functional reasons.

The Big Bang Original Unico Coal Blue is at the heart of the new Big Bang Original Unico range, which combines the esthetic of the Big Bang Original with the contemporary features of the Big Bang Unico. It features the same distinctive characteristics, including the new 43-mm case, the iconic reworked carbon fiber-effect dial, the Unico Manufacture movement and a sculpted diamond-patterned structured rubber strap reminiscent of the very first Big Bang watches equipped with the One-Click system.

The other two pieces reflect the mineral character of the Coal Blue through the use of carbon in its purest state: diamond. For both creators, black is not absence, it is essence. Hublot pioneered the All Black concept in 2006, where light is defined by volume and texture, beyond its color. When Yohji Yamamoto first presented the collection in Paris in 1981, the black silhouettes were seen as revolutionary, an anti-fashion statement that freed creation from decoration. At Hublot, black is sculpted through material: matte ceramics, smoked sapphire, surfaces that play with shadow. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the manufacture’s most emblematic collection, Hublot has revisited some of the most significant milestones in the collection’s history in a true act of fusion, combining the original Big Bang’s design with the current Big Bang Unico, resulting in five limited edition Big Bang models. Each of the five editions combines the most emblematic details from the first Big Bang models and the later Big Bang Unico, making these 20th anniversary pieces commemorative by bridging the past, present and future of the Big Bang.

All five models feature a redesigned case with the distinctive layered construction that recalls the earliest Big Bangs with pinched lugs and a knurled bezel edge, as well as the distinctive Big Bang silhouette. The engraved dials with a carbon fibre-inspired relief motif feature the iconic riveted Arabic numerals and indexes and, just like the original Big Bangs, but this time filled with Super-LumiNova like the Big Bang Unico models. Like the originals, the dial features three counters for the chronograph function and constant seconds, though now driven by the Unico automatic manufacture chronograph movement, with a commemorative gold rotor marking the 20th anniversary of this modern icon. The structured rubber strap with a treaded lozenge pattern, reminiscent of the very first Big Bangs, is fastened to the case using the Big Bang Unico’s One Click strap-change mechanism integrated in the case. With these five editions, Hublot sought to highlight a selection of materials that stand out as the manufacture’s source of pride, which have earned it immense expertise to create truly outstanding pieces.

TITANIUM CERAMIC & KING GOLD CERAMIC
Back to where it all begins, the original fusion. When the Big Bang entered the scene in 2005, it did so with two versions that would set the tone for the collection according to the philosophy of the “Art of fusion”, earning Hublot and the Big Bang world recognition. The combination of steel or gold, fibreglass, rubber and ceramic with a patterned dial recalling the woven look of carbon fibre and just a touch of red is immediately identifiable. For the Big Bang 20th Anniversary editions, limited to 500 pieces in titanium ceramic and 250 pieces in King Gold ceramic, Hublot has optimized every detail. The case features a new 43mm diameter, with slightly curved pinched lugs. The polished bezel brings back the knurled bezel edge that was a prominent feature of the earliest Big Bang models. It also marks the reappearance of the rubber-tipped rectangular pushers found in the first Big Bang references, along with the textured lozenge patterned rubber strap, which is easily swappable thanks the One-Click system integrated in the case.

The carbon-patterned dial has also been redesigned for an even more dramatic three-dimensional visual impact and more pronounced interplay of shadows and textures. Taking cues from the Big Bang Unico, the Arabic numerals and hour markers are filled with Super-LumiNova for optimal legibility in all situations. The red accents on the chronograph indicators further enhance the readability. Powered by the Unico automatic flyback chronograph manufacture calibre, the Big Bang 20th anniversary pieces feature a special gold oscillating weight, and a specially engraved crown with rubber insert features a special Hublot 20th anniversary logo.

RED CERAMIC
Ceramic has always played an integral role in the genesis and evolution of the Big Bang. But what Hublot has done in the past years is truly pushing the envelope by producing ceramic in vivid colours that the world of watchmaking has never seen before. No small feat, coloured ceramic are extremely difficult to master. From selecting the right pigments to applying the right pressures and temperatures to maintain the material’s structural integrity and keep the colour homogenous, a lot of trial and error is required to get it just right as the process has to be adapted for each colour. The first of Hublot’s in-house developed and made coloured ceramics was red ceramic, first unveiled in 2018. To mark this important achievement as the first of many developments in which Hublot stands at the forefront of innovation, the Big Bang 20th Anniversary Red Magic edition of 100 pieces completes the quintet of commemorative pieces. The combination of bright red ceramic with a carbon-patterned dial is as evocative as it is boldly and proudly singular.

ALL BLACK
Few design codes have been as dramatic and game-changing in contemporary watch design as Hublot’s All Black. A daring and unprecedented concept first unveiled in 2006 with the first Big Bang All Black limited edition, the watch broke all the norms that we had come to expect from a luxury timepiece. The focus wasn’t functionality or readability, but to a bold concept of “invisible visibility” whereby stripping away all colours and light offers a mesmerizing and stealthy allure where even the most miniscule details shine under a different light. For the 20th anniversary of the Big Bang, Hublot is once again reinterpreting this defiant concept in the Big Bang 20th Anniversary All Black Edition. Arsham’s first wristwatch design for Hublot, the timepiece is a wearable sculpture with Arsham’s creative direction dripping from every fluid curve. The compact 42mm case size has been made possible through the integration of Hublot’s new, smaller Meca-10, an in-house manual-wind movement that can be seen through the dial opening and sapphire caseback.

The choice of sapphire crystal – used for the frosted box-shaped bezel – titanium and rubber as the raw materials underpins the essence of Art of Fusion and has provided the perfect base to sculpt the watch’s

organic shapes that are inspired by flowing water. The defining feature is a striking splash-shaped opening on the dial, which is a direct evolution from the MP-16’s droplet inspiration.

Arsham’s view of time is central to his design approach. In his 2016 TED Talk, he explained, “My work is about collapsing time. You’re not quite sure if it’s an object from the past or the future.” While the MP-16 Arsham Droplet brought that concept to life through form, the new MP-17 Meca-10 Arsham Splash Titanium Sapphire focuses on how time leaves an impression. With its fluid case lines, splash-shaped dial opening, and transparent sapphire components, it blends Arsham’s artistic vision with Hublot’s Meca-10 movement to deliver both concept and performance in a wearable design.

At first sight the watch seems to be a departure from the familiar Hublot form, yet on closer inspection, all of the signature elements are there including the six H-screws on the bezel and caseback, the distinctive lugs at 3 and 9 o’clock and the titanium H-shaped folding clasp. Arsham green accents are found on the hour and minute hands, the numerals, the hour and five-minute markers, the small seconds hand at 9 o’clock and on the power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock.

A Fusion of Excellence and Innovation

Hublot was given a challenge: to create an incredibly light watch with a sustainable component. Known for pushing the boundaries in terms of research and development, Hublot was able to not only create a new material but a highly personal one at that. Hublot developed a composite made up of 25 HEAD rackets as well as 17 dark blue and 15 light blue Lacoste polos used by Djokovic during his 2023 season, the year in which the world witnessed Djokovic make history and break records with 24 Grand Slams singles titles.

These materials have been developed and used to make the watch as light as possible without losing any strength or resilience. In many ways, the R&D process for this watch mirrors Djokovic’s determination to aim for excellence.

The composite that makes up the case and bezel of the watch is made of Epoxy resin reinforced with quartz powder and glass veil that has been fused with the recycled rackets and shirts. The resulting material is speckled with fragments of light & dark blue textiles and black carbon to create a singular camo aesthetic. An innovative approach, representative of Hublot’s ambition for endless reinvention.

To ensure a feather-light feeling on the wrist, Hublot had to find a way to reduce the weight of the watch. Instead of using traditional sapphire crystal, the Swiss luxury watchmaker has chosen tempered Gorilla glass, a material used in high-end electronics and two times lighter than sapphire. An achievement made possible by the relentless drive of Hublot’s innovation and materials teams to create singular watches while pursuing the brand’s engagement to move towards meaningful products, made with awareness.

At the heart of the watch lies the Unico manufacture chronograph movement. Synonymous with the bold and always different character of the brand, the movement was a natural choice for this special piece. Nonetheless, the standard Unico movement in brass had to be reinvented to reduce the weight of the watch. To do so, Hublot chose aluminum, prized for its lightness, and anodized in light blue or gray to echo the camo color scheme of the case. In doing so, Hublot’s engineers were able to reduce the weight of the movement by 27%, shedding almost a third of its weight. Aluminum has also been used for some case components such as side pieces (3H-9H), sub-bezel, bezel lugs, pushers, crown and case-back.

The Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic comes with four straps for four different styles. The first bracelet is a “Lacoste” tennis wristband that attaches to the watch head with the One Click System, making the watch the perfect tennis companion. The second style is a blue elastic strap, this combination weighs a total of 49.5 grams, lighter than a tennis ball! The third style features a light blue Velcro strap with a polished blue aluminum sports buckle. The last style is a white rubber strap with titanium deployant buckle.

Highly Collectible

Fans of the tennis player and collectors alike will appreciate the details that have been added to the watch, such as a yellow second pusher or the slightly domed and curved bezel screws reminiscent of a tennis ball. The Novak Djokovic logo is visible on the glass and on the oscillating weight.

The Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic, limited to 100 pieces, is housed in Hublot’s sustainably sourced, high quality wooden watch box. Created entirely from oak, including its hinges, it is carved from mostly massive, traceable wood, whose sourcing and manufacture both promote short supply chains. The watch box features a unique design created exclusively for this limited-edition.

Transcending the preconceived notions of contemporary art, Takashi Murakami created his own art movement dubbed “Superflat”, extending from fine arts such as painting, sculptures and installations to more commercial media such as fashion and animation. Blurring the line between high and low arts, Murakami melds the aesthetic of the Japanese artistic tradition with contemporary art and culture. Of all his works, the most iconic is the smiling flower, which HUBLOT has sought to bring into a watchmaking context through several collaborative pieces.

The MP-15 is the symbol of a friendship in full bloom, born from a shared passion for breaking down boundaries and going beyond expectations. HUBLOT first began working with Murakami in 2021, with a shared drive of breaking down boundaries and going beyond expectations with their respective artforms. After his eponymous Classic Fusion models and a series of NFT artworks paired with unique pieces, HUBLOT and Takashi Murakami took their partnership to the next level with the unveiling of the MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon for the Only Watch 2023 charity auction. Reimagining one of Murakami’s most emblematic motifs, the MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon took on the “smiling flower” and transfigured it from Murakami’s signature aesthetic into a wearable sculpture that seamlessly merges contemporary art, avant-garde watchmaking and exceptional gem-setting; the latter of which HUBLOT has pioneered with unexpected techniques and a mastering of the perfect rainbow effect. This requires carefully selecting gemstones that work together in a perfect transition of tones.

Meticulously crafted from a block of Sapphire crystal, the modestly sized 42mm smiling flower case features twelve petals. True to Murakami’s highly chromatic palette, the twelve petals feature polished Titanium inlays that are set with 444 colored gemstones in total, including brilliant-cut Rubies, Pink Sapphires, Amethysts, Blue Sapphires, Blue Topazes, Tsavorites and Yellow or Orange Sapphires. These stones are grouped together so that each petal is in a different vibrant color, just like the original Murakami smiling flower.

More than just an incredible feat of gem-setting however, the MP-15 features a truly revolutionary mechanical caliber. At the heart of the HUB9015 calibre is the central flying tourbillon, which can be admired through the domed sapphire crystal engraved with two twinkling eyes and a smiling mouth. A first for HUBLOT, the central tourbillon is an exceedingly rare type of complication that demands advanced engineering and reimagining how a mechanical movement is built. In the MP-15, it is animated by means of a manual-winding caliber that boasts an exceptional power reserve of 120 hours – enough to run for nearly a whole week. To make the winding experience as effortless as possible, HUBLOT has created a special rechargeable stylus that’s placed on the crown, which winds the twin barrels in 100 revolutions.

With this work of sculptural, wearable art, the notion of innovative and original watchmaking nonetheless takes center-stage. Surrounding the MP-15’s central flying tourbillon and keeping its view unobstructed, the hours and minutes are indicated by two hand tips that revolve around its periphery. The hands are actually positioned beneath the tourbillon cage, with just their tips bent upwards and outwards thanks to an intricate co-axial
construction. Making the reading of time effortless and intuitive, the opening features a flange ring set with twelve baton hour markers, each continuing the color of the petal. The visual intrigue of the MP-15 is further enhanced by the fact that most of the movement’s components have been skeletonized, which appear as if floating in a vacuum. A true feat of superlative watchmaking.

The finishing touch comes in the form of the strap, which is transparent and decorated with Takashi Murakami’s signature flower motif. Like the case, the deployant buckle is crafted in Sapphire crystal and Titanium.

Even though the tireless activities of SORAI and its partners have significantly increased awareness of the threat to the rhino and made a powerful contribution to the preservation of the species, the crisis continues. According to the WWF, half a million rhinos roamed Africa and Asia at the beginning of the 20th century, a figure that has now dropped to just 27,000 as the dual problems of poaching and habitat loss continue to pose an existential threat to rhino and other keystone wildlife species. The black, Javan, and Sumatran rhino are all listed as critically endangered.

But by being United for Change, there is good news. Conservation programmes such as those supported by SORAI have helped increase the population of Indian rhinos from around 200 at the turn of the 20th century to around 4,000 today, while black rhinos have doubled in number over the past two decades. Hublot is proud to support SORAI as it empowers conservation agencies to continue this work and bring positive change.

SORAI is a socially conscious enterprise founded in 2018 by former England cricket captain and conservationist Kevin Pietersen, who was born in South Africa and grew up with a passion for the natural world. The Hublot Spirit of Big Bang SORAI is the fourth watch created in support of SORAI, and the first Spirit of Big Bang. Its 42mm case is cast in the same micro-blasted and polished “warm grey” ceramic created by Hublot for SORAI to capture the distinctive colour of a rhino’s skin and first seen in the Big Bang Unico SORAI 2023. The watch is set on a grey fabric strap and supplied with a second strap in black rubber with a striking grey and beige camouflage pattern. Powering the watch is the HUB6020 Manufacture calibre, a hand-wound, skeletonised tourbillon with a five-day power reserve. It provides the watch with an asymmetrical display that sits poised between two sapphire crystals and that delicately balances a time display at 3 o’clock and a power reserve indicator between 8 and 9 o’clock. The Spirit of Big Bang SORAI will be limited to 30 pieces.

From the Classic Fusion Tourbillon Orlinski to his sculptures, Orlinski’s pieces never go unnoticed. The watch emerges from a work of art. Or perhaps it’s the other way around? Hublot’s ‘Art of Fusion’ has never been more exquisitely expressed than through the brand’s collaboration with Richard Orlinski. The world’s best-selling French artist and the most innovative watchmaker of the last 20 years were destined for one another.

Vibrant yellow or sky blue: two sides of the same creative coin that together prove you can produce serious pieces for collectors who aren’t. The first is radiantly sunny, with its case, strap, bezel, hands and index all dressed in yellow. Its ‘beating heart’ is still the manually wound HUB6021. This movement is a favourite among brand connoisseurs. Its components, such as the crown and the six H-shaped screws around the bezel, appear suspended in space by black PVD skeleton bridges. Between 8 and 9 o’clock, the power reserve indicates the five-day capacity. At 6 o’clock, the tourbillon keeps the time ticking on. Plus, thanks to sapphire crystal faces on the front and back, the Classic Fusion Tourbillon Orlinski always catches the light.

The 45 mm case boasts the bold contours of Richard Orlinski’s signature style. Since 2017, Hublot has been giving the artist free rein to express himself and push the limits of his creativity within the Classic Fusion series. He has sculpted the bezel, redesigned the case and crafted the index. The Classic is no longer classic in name only: Orlinski has transported it into a new graphic dimension.

“By giving me carte blanche, Hublot has enabled me to explore new creative frontiers”, explains Richard Orlinski. “I’ve had the freedom to be able to take the Classic Fusion to the limits of its potential. Smooth yet dynamic, like the edges of its ceramic case, it embodies a kind of animality, the ‘Born Wild’ spirit that is a constant theme running through my work. I first imagined this design in 2004. With this second version, Hublot and Richard Orlinski are taking another gamble. Bright yellow gives way to sky blue. The bridges are covered in silver rhodium plating, revealing the polished, satin-brushed and embossed finishes of each component. Contrast is blurred and replaced by a chromatic harmony. Opposite the scorching, sunny yellow model, the second Classic Fusion Tourbillon Orlinski plays the ‘clear sky’ card. One perfectly balances the other. This is the ‘Art of Fusion’. Although very different, they are inextricably connected. The first offers an azure sky into which the second sets as a brilliant sun. Celestial or solar, the choice is yours. But there will only be 30 pieces produced of each model!

Sparkling purity

The 27,782 facets of its 479 brilliant-cut diamonds set the Spirit of Big Bang Jewellery Steel or King Gold aflame with the undying light of a thousand stars. Resplendent rainbows

Elusive, fleeting, ephemeral… this celestial phenomenon disappears when the sun is hidden. Closely allied to sapphire, SAXEM is equally resistant, yet offers even more luminosity.

It took almost two years of R&D to successfully create the uniform, homogenous colour  of this chemical compound. While as perfect and resistant as sapphire, the finish differs. This is something collectors appreciate as the new green SAXEM captures the essence of Hublot: first, unique and different.”

With cousins, you can tell they come from the same family but they do have distinctive differences. The same can be said for sapphire and SAXEM, their connection is clear as they come from the same Hublot lineage. The  Manufacture in Nyon is credited with bringing them both into the 21st century, to the point of establishing them as hallmark materials. Even so, their profiles are quite distinct. Sapphire is made of aluminium oxide, to which metallic oxides are added to provide colour. In contrast, SAXEM is coloured with rare earth elements. Sapphire has a trigonal (three-sided) structure, while SAXEM has a cubic (four-sided) form.

Chemical details? Maybe, but ever since Hublot established itself as an integrated Manufacture, R&D has been the key focus of its operations. This was true when the Nyon Manufacture was inaugurated in 2009, and, 15 years  later, remains so today. The new Big Bang Unico Green SAXEM is further proof.

Creating an unprecedented shade of SAXEM is a challenging process. It’s a process Hublot has been working on since 2019, when it was first introduced for the Big Bang MP-11. Since then, the Manufacture has developed two  shades: yellow and emerald. While as resistant as sapphire, it has a different shine: a brighter one. Its structure has fewer strains, it is more uniform and seamless. Hublot is exploring the future with a SAXEM that offers new  technical and aesthetic perspectives.

The Green SAXEM of the new Big Bang UNICO highlights a number of these innovations. The 42 mm case is solid and robust. It packs all the power of SAXEM into a dense, compact diameter. The material does not receive  light, but creates the illusion of emitting it. The Green SAXEM is diffused into the smallest contours of the case and bezel, which are studded with six of Hublot’s iconic titanium H-shaped screws. The One Click system  patented by Hublot for its interchangeable straps can be found at 12 and 6 o’clock.

For the movement, Hublot has opted for another Manufacture design: the UNICO 2 calibre, a newgeneration flyback chronograph, the HUB1280. This is a first as the micro-rotor HUB6035 powered the previous Big Bang  SAXEM. The movement is still self-winding, but now offers collectors the added benefit of a high-performance tungsten oscillating weight, visible through the back of the Green SAXEM case.

Combining advanced technology and a robust design, the HUB1280 calibre features the iconic column wheel at 6 o’clock, UNICO’s technical and aesthetic signature. Another distinctive aspect is the date disc, entirely visible  around the movement, with the aperture set in the centre of the 60-minute counter at 3 o’clock.

The movement is finished in black PVD, as are the crown and its two push-pieces. For the index and the hands’ luminescent material, Hublot has successfully reproduced the exact shade of Green SAXEM. This is a first, and  will remain highly exclusive as only 100 Big Bang Green SAXEM watches will be produced.

With its rounded angles, sleek design and sapphire crystal of an unparalleled complexity, it houses a movement which is no less sophisticated. A fusion of form and substance. The mechanical and aesthetic power are inseparable – one of the key concepts guiding the MP collections.

And at the point where they intersect, the Manufacture offers a bold reinvention of the classic watchmaking complications. These are avant-garde pieces which are resolutely disruptive in their movement, display and complications. But they are neither concepts nor exercises in style. Like all the other MPs, the MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System is a complete, accomplished and practical watch that will soon adorn the wrists of a select few collectors.

Limited to 50 pieces

Instinctively, we seek to characterise the piece in the time-honoured way… Firstly through the figures, which make for impressive reading: 592 components, 5 years of R&D, 2 linear weights, 1 inclined tourbillon, a circular power reserve, for a model to be produced in a limited edition of just 50 pieces.

Next, its indications. Here, things get a little more complicated: The MP-10 has no hands. In their place are four constantly rotating displays: the hours and minutes in the upper third of the dial, combined with an invisible magnifying glass; the circular power reserve in the central third, with a very clear green zone and red zone; and the seconds in the lower third which are indicated directly on the tourbillon cage. It is made from monobloc aluminium, suspended and inclined, and a patent application is pending for this unique mechanical configuration.

The piece has no dial: Hublot has fused the calibre with the dial. The movement is the face and soul of the watch. The gaze is drawn directly to the mechanism to read the time. The MP-10 features a highly architectural design and a particularly expressive movement built around volume and depth. Yet, this in no way interferes with reading. Instead, it makes it simpler. The time is read from top to bottom, fluidly and naturally. The power reserve is particularly expressive, with a two-tone disc (red and green) set coaxially to the hours and minutes.

This design eliminates the traditional space constraints, which are usually dictated by a central display in a horizontal plane. The MP-10 can be easily read vertically: hours, minutes, power reserve then seconds. The movement of the eye is fluid and natural. The indications are aligned. They share the same white lacquer typography on black aluminium rollers. For each indication, the current time is read via a red triangular marker.

Reinventing automatic winding

Its winding system follows the same logic. A traditional movement is formed of a flat dial paired with an oscillating weight on the case-back side. However, this type of construction is incompatible with the MP-10. The piece has no dial or hands, it is not flat, and it is read vertically. So, how is it wound?

The engineers at Hublot retained the weight principle but verticalised it, just like the movement, then duplicated it. On either side of the central architecture sit two blocks of white gold, arranged on a vertical axis along which they are free to move.

To prevent them from colliding with the banking, Hublot developed a system of shock absorbers. These two vertical weights engage a rack and are able to wind the movement bidirectionally – an exclusive Hublot development for which a patent is also pending, that gives the MP-10 a power reserve of more than 48 hours. The watch is wound manually via the crown at 12 o’clock, while the time is set using a second crown nestled on the case-back side to preserve the fluidity of the design.

Unprecedented complexity

The exterior is on par with the movement. While the case construction is simple (two pieces, middle and case-back in shiny micro-blasted titanium), the sapphire crystal atop it is Hublot’s most complex to date and combines inclined planes on three axes. The same applies to the integrated rubber strap – also the most refined ever designed by the Manufacture. Until the next MP.
