This close bond manifests itself through the Manufacture’s relationship with Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, its retail partner based in the United Arab Emirates. The prestigious retailer, founded in 1950, represents over 60 luxury watch and jewellery brands, which it distributes via 51 points of sale. The company has an enviable track record within the region, underpinned with a reputation for delivering high levels of customer service.

It is this knowledge of the local market and the retailer’s desire to engage with the watch collecting community that led to it hosting the inaugural watchmaking showcase, Dubai Watch Week back in 2015. This event has since become a must-attend show for brands, collectors, and retailers alike, with visitors flying in from all around the globe to witness the latest creations the watch industry has to offer. In fact, when the last biennial event was held in 2021, it attracted over 16,000 visitors.

This year, Girard-Perregaux is proud to be participating once again at the Dubai Watch Week, with its own standalone booth for the very first time, offering visitors an immersive insight into the brand’s universe. Montblanc has unveiled a brand-new Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph limited edition of the historic model that began as a timekeeper on Paris’ famous Champs-de-Mars horse racing  track in 1821, and has continued to be a sought-after timepiece by collectors around the world. The GCC Region Chronograph, limited to just 50 pieces, includes distinctive references to countries  in the Middle East’s GCC region, where the spirit and legacy of horse racing and fine watchmaking is equally cherished.

The exclusive collection is a beautiful continuation of the Maison’s renowned “inking” chronograph, which was updated in 2022 in a new 43mm case size, and is now presented in this highly  contemporary design in a stainlesssteel case with black DLC coating, a multi-layered anthracite dial, and refined touches of dark green.

Combining finishes and textures that play with the light, the timepiece features a graphic anthracite Clou de Paris base plate, with added anthracite sub dials that stand out with their sunray  finishing. The hour and minute indexes, along with the three counters, have been laser-cut to reveal the black finishings below, while the flange of the dial is satin finished for even more contrast.

Touches of green pay tribute to the shade of green included on most national flags of countries in the GCC, a colour that is deeply rooted in the region’s history, culture and religion, and represents unity, freedom and hope. The bevelled double indexes, skeletonized second time zone hand, screws, and Day & Night indications are also crafted in green, along with the alligator strap and the  luminescence seen on the hour and minute hands when the sun goes down.

Adding both aesthetic and cultural appeal – and enhancing the watch’s uniqueness and collectability – the Limited Edition GCC Chronograph is the first Nicolas Rieussec timepiece to feature  numerals on the chronograph counters and date in Arabic.

The Montblanc Star Legacy Chronograph Nicolas Rieussec GCC Limited Edition is powered by the self-winding Manufacture monopusher chronograph movement MB R200, and the first in-house movement by the Maison. Designed to reach the highest level of technical efficiency and aesthetics, the Chronograph is equipped with a column-wheel that controls the monopusher mechanism.

To improve the chronograph’s start, the connection between the gear train and the chronograph’s wheels is alternately engaged and disengaged by a vertical disc clutch and functions without any  wear and tear. This mechanism prevents the elapsed time discs from jumping when the chronograph is switched on. The timepiece features a monopusher, which is ergonomically positioned at 8  o’clock, where the wearer’s thumb can conveniently operate it.

Additionally, a rapid-reset mechanism for the hour and date is extremely practical for travellers who journey from one time zone to another. These indicators can be reset either clockwise or  counter-clockwise without affecting the position of the minute hand.

The rate is regulated by a large 10-mm-diameter balance wheel with screws, which oscillates regularly thanks to its high moment of inertia (12 mgcm²) and its frequency of 28,800 A/h (4 Hz). The stable rate is further enhanced by the double barrel, providing 72 hours of power reserve. Furthermore, the balance bridge is open-worked, ensuring the precise positioning of the oscillator for optimal shock resistance.

The Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph GCC Limited Edition comes with two interchangeable straps – one in green alligator, and the other in anthracite textile featuring the  Clou de Paris motif – and will be sold exclusively in Montblanc Boutiques across the region.

Les Rééditions de Cartier were launched in 2021 with the Pasha Calendrier Perpétuel and the Tank Cintrée in yellow gold, produced in a limited edition of 150 to mark its centenary, followed by the  Pebble watch in 2022, which celebrated its 50th anniversary with Cartier.

Today, the Maison is returning to the Tank Cintrée, the first known evolution of the original Tank of 1917, which appeared in 1921 and established the rectangle in the world of Tank shapes as a result of research into aesthetics and function. Thanks to the curves and slenderness of its rounded case, the watch elegantly hugs the wrist.

Today, Cartier is offering an even rarer and more precious version of a cult combination: platinum—a prestigious material that is difficult to work with—and ruby, set in a cabochon on the winding crown. The choice of materials is all the more appropriate given that this creation celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Tank Cintrée watch in platinum.

The case has been refined and is now a remarkable 6.03 mm thick. It houses a movement with manual winding, the calibre 9780 MC. Rail tracks, Roman numerals, apple-shaped blued hands, “eggshell” dial and a pin buckle—all the watchmaking hallmarks of the Maison are there, renewing and confirming the Tank Cintrée’s place in Cartier’s heritage.

The final touch of refinement on this creation, produced in an edition of 150 numbered pieces, is the play of finishes on the brancards, polished on the verticals and matte on the horizontals.

We knew immediately that we wanted to collaborate  for a special edition for the club that will be the first of its kind in our region- hence the 1858 Geosphere O oxygen AWC edition is born

At first we had high ambitions to be able to replicate the case back engraving on the dial side but we knew this would be far fetched because the dial has little room for manoeuvre so we opted for a different design direction to make it more achievable.

1-Design

It was clear from the start that we wanted the case to be in bronze : first, it would be the club first bronze watch since inception and second the contrast of colors we had in mind specially for the case back would work best on bronze

The dial had to be reworked entirely to reflect all consistent eastern Arabic numerals on all subdials, hemispheres dates and indexes.It was a fully customized dial. The color was chosen to be fume grey to reflect more the warmth color of our region with hints of Golden/Yellowsh colors around the numerals, hemispheres and out ring, and a small touch of orange on the dual time hand.

This would be the first edition will full Eastern Arabic numeral on such model by Montblanc – the consistency on the dial was very important for us to achieve as many brands tend to miss out on that in their Middle East editions.

2- Case back

Now let’s talk about the most interesting element in the watch- the case back is the art scene of the watch using the proprietary technique of engraving on titanium created by MB.

Ou initial design was different because we wanted to include a scenic view of all iconic buildings in our region however lP rights for each building made this hard to achieve, so we switched to our current design and I am glad we did as it turned out to be even better.

The current design is the topographic map of the Arabian peninsula viewed from above showing the different terrains we live in as members of the club -the map includes all the countries we live in currently – the case back colors have a certain warmth to them with the oceans breaking in between and most important the arabic falcon flying over with his shadow on Saudi Arabia.

Surrounding the titanium on the side of the case, the cities of the club members residences are written in Arabic and each member’s name is engraved on the top left side -the bottom side has the name of the club and the number of the watch out of 40.

3 – Delivery

All watches have been allocated to the club member however for the first time we have kept 15 watches to MB VIP lists for them to participate in the project -we wanted to share the success and joy with the hardcore Montblanc fans that would enjoy and appreciate this unique design.

All watches are prepared and delivered to all collectors in a private event in Dubai to celebrate in October 2023 – the delivery of the project was relatively fast for about 8 months from first booking to delivery

The prototype of the watch has been showcasing in the Dubai  mall boutique for anyone to check it out and try it.

Oris and Seddiqi Group have been our partners for our 19th Special Edition and we couldn’t have been more thrilled with the result. The Oris Pointer Date AWC Edition is limited to 50 pieces and sold out to club members exclusively

The Edition

We decided to create a unique edition that expresses our own idea of how we perceive our Pointer date should look like and how different we want it to be compared to all the editions out there.

This is where we came up with the rectangular configuration of the numerals 2,4,8 and 10 – the configurations allows the dial to be fully open with no distractions and makes it also unusual to see that configuration compared to for instance the 12,3,6,9 we usually see in many watches

The second important element in the watch and one that makes it the most unique of them all is the Trademark name of Oris in arabic. This is a first!! we designed the logo in collaboration with Wissam Shawkat known to have designed for Rolex, Chopard and many other watch brands. The final look is outstanding!!! the reason is its correct reflection of its English counterpart. The logo and the numerals have the same font and are very homogeneous

The third element of design and is a much more subtle one is the pointer color of the date pointer hand – look closely and you will realize that the color is not red but more yellowish – this color has the same pantone as the club logo.

The case back of the watch has our logo engraved fully on it , with the name of the club, the number of the piece and is made of stainless steel unlike the bronze case.

The Release

The 50 pieces were pre-sold to the club members ahead of delivery and the first pieces has been delivered during Geneva Watch Days as a first prototype for the edition.

All watches are expected to be delivered in November in Dubai during Dubai Watch Week in a closed special event for all new owners to enjoy their new piece and share the moment with other club members, the Oris and Seddiqi team.

The BR 03, an icon in Bell & Ross’ history
The BR 03 collection embodies Bell & Ross’ identity and style and has been one of its landmarks as of 2006. Since its inception in 1994, the brand has proudly been the ultimate reference in the field of aviation watches, by meeting the demands of professional users in extreme conditions. Its design principles are inspired in aircraft cockpits and aeronautical instrumentation, which ensures first class performance. The brand is a benchmark in the world of professional aviation watches. It is also respected because it epitomizes the spirit of refinement and good taste. Today, it surprises us by revisiting its worldwide identifiable case. Its legendary “circle within a square, held by four screws” that is reminiscent of the silhouette of cockpit clocks, was a brilliant bid. The story goes like this: the BR 01 made its appearance in 2005 with an imposing 46 mm case. In 2006, the 42 mm model was launched with great success. In 2023 the BR 03 amazes us, once again, with a 41 mm case and other remarkable features.

Same spirit, striking new proportions
In the universe of watchmaking design, every millimeter counts. Enlarging or reducing a case is a serious matter. Designers often prefer to start over, rather than altering an iconic model. Bruno Belamich, Bell & Ross’ co-founder and Creative Director, who knows about impeccability, says: “With the new BR 03, we modified the proportions of the collection by respecting its canons. Our goal was to preserve the identity that has made the BR 03 so successful, while adapting it to the new times and maintaining its allure.”
The lightly smaller dimensions of the case –42 mm to 41– are delicate and powerful at the same time. They are immediately perceived by the eye and change the look and feeling of the watch. This is enhanced by the lugs, which have now changed from 4.5 mm to 4. These transformations reflect an exciting and newfound rhythm.

Design and movement taken to a higher level
The evolution of the BR 03 includes a narrower rubber strap and a new automatic movement: the BR-CAL.302, which introduces an extended power reserve of 54 hours. This implies the watch can be left unused and will display the exact time two days later.

A wide-ranging and accomplished collection
The vibrant and breathtaking BR 03 collection is novel and classic at the same time. The brand’s iconic models are now powered by the latest automatic BR-CAL.302 caliber and are also water-resistant to 100 meters.
It presents three models in Bell & Ross’ black case: Black Matte, Phantom and Heritage, with a resolutely retro look. Three versions in polished steel –Black Steel, Blue Steel and Golden Heritage– with black, blue and brown dials, respectively. In its new collaboration, Swatch honors this icon with five new models, all while staying true to itself in a fun, playful way. Named Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms, the collection references the brand’s own diver’s watches, the SCUBA line. The watches in this non-limited collection faithfully reproduce all the Fifty Fathoms hallmarks: superior water resistance, outstanding legibility, mechanical movement, secured rotating bezel and anti-magnetic protection. Blancpain and Swatch drew their inspiration from the deep seas to create a collection of five Swatch models. Each one is named after one of the blue planet’s five oceans: ARCTIC OCEAN, PACIFIC OCEAN, ATLANTIC OCEAN, INDIAN OCEAN and ANTARCTIC OCEAN.
True to form for a diver’s watch, the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms is water resistant in deep water, down to 91 meters. It’s another nod to Blancpain: the name Fifty Fathoms refers to the fathom — Historically the maritime measure of depth in the English-speaking world — fifty fathoms equals 91 meters (or 300 feet).

The Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms is equipped with a Swatch mechanical movement, the SISTEM51, the first and only mechanical movement whose production is entirely automated. The mechanism is anti-magnetic, thanks to its Nivachron™ hairspring, and has just 51 parts including one central screw as well as a 90-hour power reserve. In 2013, SISTEM51 revolutionized the world of automatic watches with its visible movement: the front tells the time, the back tells the story.

In keeping with this idea, the back of all five watches features an illustration of a magnificent, colorful animal found in all five oceans: the nudibranchs (scientific name: Nudibranchia). They are featured in a digital print on the movement’s rotor. This rotor allows the watch to recharge automatically with a simple movement of the wrist. On the ARCTIC OCEAN watch is the nudibranch Dendronotus Frondosus, characterized by its soft, subtle shapes. The PACIFIC OCEAN features Chromodoris Kuiteri. Bright as the sun, it recalls these warm, clear blue waters. The ATLANTIC OCEAN has Glaucus Atlanticus. Its deep blue colors pay tribute to wild seas. But don’t be fooled: even though this species highlights the fragility of marine life, it’s still poisonous — nicknamed the blue dragon. The INDIAN OCEAN, with its Nembrotha Kubaryana, evokes the mesmerizing colors of corals and the lush, dazzling waters. Finally, the ANTARCTIC OCEAN features Tritoniella Belli, recalling the mystery and allure of icy polar waters. It resembles an iceberg battered by storm waves. All these nudibranchs actually live in the oceans their watches are inspired by. Each watch also has a depiction of the ocean it represents on the back.

All the models in this collaboration between the two Swatch Group brands are made of Bioceramic. This unique material is patented by the brand and made of two-thirds ceramic and one-third biosourced material derived from castor oil. As an expression of commitment to ocean preservation, the NATO straps are made from recycled fishing nets that have been removed from the sea.
The shared Blancpain X Swatch logos can be found on the dial and crown. The word “Swatch” is also inscribed on the case, just as “Blancpain” is inscribed on the original Fifty Fathoms watches. The back of the watch features inspirational inscriptions like PASSION FOR DIVING – LICENCE TO EXPLORE – OCEAN BREATH – PROTECT WHAT YOU LOVE and IMMERSE YOURSELF.
For absolute Fifty Fathoms devotees, the ARCTIC OCEAN model features a special symbol on the dial: a red trefoil on a yellow background with a white cross cutting through it. The words “NO RADIATIONS” are placed below the logo to drive the message home. In the sixties, the dials on these diver’s watches used the “NO RADIATIONS” logo to show that they did not contain radium. Since then, they have become highly sought-after collectors’ items. Today, they are part of the legendary Fifty Fathoms heritage.

Another noteworthy reference can be found on the ANTARCTIC OCEAN model: a genuine water contact indicator that detects the presence of water. Since 1954, Blancpain has added this feature to some of its models intended for use by diving clubs and military units. Placed at 6 o’clock on the dial, the sensor ensures that the watch’s water resistance has not been affected by the previous diver’s use. A change in sensor color would indicate a trace of moisture. A number of Fifty Fathoms models equipped with the two-color sensor bear the name “MIL-SPEC”, in accordance with US Navy specifications.

The new Blancpain X Swatch Collection comes in exclusive colors that were specifically developed for this collaboration. They add a strong, playful and original touch to Blancpain’s professional diver’s watches. Every Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms has its own identity and makes its own allusions to the Blancpain collection.
The watches in this new Swatch collaboration are available from September 9 and only at selected Swatch stores worldwide. As with the Bioceramic MoonSwatch, purchases are limited to one watch per person per day. The watches will be presented in a special diving case. They will also be on display in selected Blancpain boutiques for several weeks.

SISTEM51 BY SWATCH
SISTEM51 is an automatic mechanical movement (self-winding) made up of 51 parts in total. Each of these parts forms five distinct pre-assembled, pre-welded modules. The transparent oscillating weight that controls the automatic winding is fixed by the movement’s one and only screw. Conventional automatic watches have twice as many parts if not more. Some of the more complicated high-end models have more than 600. These are assembled by hand over a number of weeks, sometimes months, by master watchmakers in their workshops.
SISTEM51 is the first and only mechanical movement with fully automated assembly. The high-tech escapement does not have a regulator (no-index assembly). The rate, or precision, is factory-set using laser technology. This avoids the manual adjustments usually required with mechanical watches. The movement, with its 90-hour power reserve, is made of German Silver and anti-rust by design. All parts are housed in a hermetically sealed case. That means no moisture, no dust and no impurities that could impair performance, guaranteeing longevity and lasting precision over time (-5/+15 seconds per day).
Each Swatch featuring a SISTEM51 movement is made visible thanks to a display back. This feature has enabled Swatch to stand out from the crowd from the very beginning since this transparency is a key part of SISTEM51. Automatic movements are driven by an oscillating weight. BLANCPAIN FIFTY FATHOMS
Seventy years ago, an icon was born: the Fifty Fathoms. The watch that would go on to revolutionize watchmaking by becoming the first modern diver’s watch was designed by a passionate scuba diver, Jean-Jacques Fiechter. At the time he was CEO of Blancpain. He was a pioneer in a discipline that was still in its infancy and he grasped how vitally important it was to be able to track time underwater.

The tool he designed to meet his own needs instantly found unanimous favor with the ocean community, so much so that it became an unwavering ally of elite divers and underwater explorers. In keeping with the Maison’s commitment to the preservation of the Alpine environment and its biodiversity, part of the proceeds from sales of these models will be donated to the Alpine Eagle Foundation, whose programmes have already enabled the reintroduction of the white-tailed eagle in the Lake Geneva region.

A new colour is making its debut on the dial of the watches in the Alpine Eagle collection: like Aletsch Blue, Bernina Grey or Absolute Black, “Pine Green” is inspired by the palette of natural colours shaping the beauty of the Alpine biotope. It evokes the forests carpeting the mountains when, on summer days, the melting snow gives way to a deep greyish-green mantle of vegetation.

On this textured dial with its radiating pattern evoking the eye of an eagle, the indication of the hours, minutes and seconds provides an elegant and legible contrast through rhodium-plated or gold-plated hour-markers and hands enhanced with Grade X1 Super-LumiNova® to ensure optimal visibility even in the dark. Positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock, the date is clearly indicated on a green disc matching the dial and thus ensuring perfect overall discretion and harmony.

The large 41 mm-diameter case of this new Alpine Eagle model is available in a first version entirely made of Lucent Steel A223. In keeping with the ethical approach to which the Manufacture is committed, this metal exclusive to Chopard is made from 70% recycled material. Thanks to its anti-allergenic composition, it has properties comparable to surgical steel, making it highly dermo-compatible. With its resistance of 223 Vickers, this alloy is 50% more resistant to abrasion than conventional steels and has a unique hardness.

A second version of the timepiece is available in 18-carat rose gold. The fine gold used to produce Alpine Eagle watches is 100% ethical, as is indeed the case for all the Maison’s watch and jewellery creations since July 2018

In keeping with the Manufacture’s commitment to certified precision, the Chopard 01.01-C self-winding movement at the heart of the Alpine Eagle watches and visible through a transparent sapphire caseback is developed in its own watchmaking workshops and certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. The word “Chronometer” on the dial is a reminder of this label of precision and excellence.

For the first time in the history of the Full Strike, the L.U.C Full Strike Tourbillon model has an almost entirely solid dial. Instead of broadly revealing the watch’s internal mechanisms, it reserves its openings for the two horological complications that make this piece so special. The first cut-out between 9 and 11 o’clock, highlights the two mirror-polished steel hammers whose striking generates the chime. The other, at 6 o’clock, reveals the tourbillon of the L.U.C 08.02-L calibre. Thanks to a cross-through sapphire crystal tourbillon bridge, nothing obscures the view of the spiral-shaped carriage bridge. Chopard Manufacture watchmakers have placed the tourbillon of the L.U.C 08.02-L calibre at 6 o’clock, beneath the seconds hand. Its high-quality steel carriage picks up the distinctive spiral design – a signature of L.U.C tourbillons. This regulator further enhances the precision of the movement, a subject to which Chopard’s Co-President, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, takes a resolutely uncompromising approach. It combats the adverse effects of gravity on the balance-spring and escapement by placing them in a variety of spatial positions. The tourbillon placed on the Chopard Manufacture minute repeater mechanism thereby contributes to the extreme precision of L.U.C Calibre 08.02-L as well as to the obtention of chronometer certification from the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute.

The L.U.C Full Strike Tourbillon is not a mere modification of the L.U.C Full Strike. Moving from a calibre comprising 533 components to one with 568 is not an addition, but a revolution. The decision to include a tourbillon regulator required a complete development process that involved rethinking interactions and layouts. With such a delicate complication subject to as many parameters as the minute repeater, the Chopard Manufacture workshops had to ensure that this tourbillon would not in any way modify the acoustic qualities of the chime. This equilibrium is preserved by the sapphire gongs that are all-of-a-piece with the watch glass, which acts as a resonator. Moreover, the fact that the minute repeater has its own barrel naturally eliminates any energy-related interference, while the presence of the tourbillon does not alter the striking reserve

L.U.C Calibre 08.02-L inherits the unprecedented advances featured in the L.U.C 08.01-L: the first minute repeater movement introduced by Chopard Manufacture in 2016. In addition to its resonant structure, whose role is taken on by the sapphire crystal, several innovative technical systems have been added. It also benefits from the innovations introduced in L.U.C Calibre 02.01-L in 2003. A total of seven are the subject of patents. In a minute repeater mechanism, the energy used by the strikework is provided each time the arming lever is activated. Here, the energy comes from a separate, dedicated barrel wound directly by the crown.

It enables the L.U.C Full Strike Tourbillon to chime a maximum of 12 times the most complex and energy-intensive time: namely 12 hours and 59 minutes. This exceptional power reserve is due to several factors. Benefiting from a patented clutch-lever device, it ensures that the strikework gear train is blocked to avoid losing power reserve during the information capture that controls the minute repeater.

Keen to preserve the user-friendliness of the minute repeater and to make its operation as secure as possible, Chopard Manufacture has introduced a number of innovative systems. Thus, if the barrel no longer has sufficient force to power the minute repeater, a safety mechanism blocks its release. In addition, Chopard has filed a patent for a new strikework-activation device. As soon as it is activated, the pusher is disengaged, thereby making it impossible to disturb the running of the minute repeater or to damage it

The Chopard L.U.C Full Strike Tourbillon is actually part of a Trinity Trio made of three watches including the Full Strike Sapphire and the Full Strike One …all relying on the Sapphire technology to produce the best resonating sound for the strikes.

The L.U.C Full Strike Sapphire timepiece is the first minute repeater watch whose case is made entirely of corundum crystal, better known as sapphire. By merging container and content, musical expression and transparency, Chopard has created a veritable horological musical instrument. Thanks to the homogeneity of the material – which is present throughout the sound propagation chain – this five-piece limited series gets the very best from sapphire.

Above and beyond its aesthetic prowess, the choice of lab-created sapphire is justified by its technical properties: derived from synthetic corundum, this material is one of the most resistant to scratches and has an estimated hardness of nine on the Mohs scale, almost as hard as diamond. Moreover, although producing a sapphire case entails considerable machining difficulties, it has the advantage of remaining unalterable over time.

The project started in 2021 sometimes during the summer period when Piaget was introducing its latest Polo Chronograph Panda Blue and later its Polo 36mm. The idea came to us whilst visiting the manufacture in the summer and proposing to the team in Geneva to start a new collaboration with a fresh take on the Polo.

To be honest this was not our first proposed design!! We wanted to create a Sport watch in steel but with a little bit of bling in it; meaning diamonds or rainbow bezel! So we started thinking of a simple design with a Time Only Polo and Gem set indexes inside the dial instead of a full rainbow bezel.

Frankly, not a lot of members were keen on such a take on a sports watch and also its appeal was less attractive knowing that the Daytona Rainbow has perfected this kind of approach.

So we went back to the drawing boards and this time decided to upgrade the watch to have a complication; one that everyone appreciates and admires; The Chronograph.

The Polo Chronograph “Panda” gave us more room for customisation and creativity and also a much more functional watch to go with.

Let’s star with the Dial composition: It was very important to us to choose a shade a of Salmon as the base color for the dial to give it a strong sumerish look that has not been seen before on a Polo. We opted for a more pinkish shade of salmong and decided to contrast it with a very unique Kakhi subdials. A combination of colors that is very striking and unused before.

All the numbers on the dial are “indian numerals” and we also changed the date wheel to keep the consistency, with the lighter shade of salmon on the background.

The Chronograph seconds hands has been modified to match the color of the subdials and remain also in Kakhi. Similarly, Piaget is now also written in Kakhi.

The case is a 42mm stainless steel case, similar to the current Polo Chronograph model and  the movement is the Manufacture Piaget 1160P self-winding mechanical movement with chronograph and date.

This self-winding chronograph movement measures just 5.72 mm thick, while displaying the hours, minutes, a chronograph with central seconds, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock and date at 6 o’clock.

The 1160P calibre provides remarkable accuracy and reliability thanks to its column wheel, vertical coupling clutch and stop seconds. Vibrating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and offering a power reserve of 50 hours.

The 1160P movement showcases meticulous finishes, such as the oscillating weight engraved with the Piaget coat-of-arms and decorated with circular Côtes de Genève, the circular-grained mainplate, bevelled bridges and blued screws.

Another special customisation added to the watches is the unique color of the rubber and leather straps that accompanies all watches – the Kakhi colors were designed to keep the harmony of colors with the dial and push the boundaries of contrasts play.

There were only 30 pieces produced for this Edition; all pre-sold to the Club members, numbered “one of 30” and with each members name fully engraved on the case back.

3 months ago; in Wetzlar, I had the privilege to witness the launch of two new watches from the giant camera and lens maker Leica: the LEICA L1 and LEICA L2 – two remarkable timepieces with a patented push crown.
We were able to see first hand the watches with their creators in Germany , however we couldn’t share the news with you earlier. Today, we can finally talk about it and show you the amazing 2 new releases.

The design of the LEICA L1 and LEICA L2 draws inspiration from previous engineering masterpieces made in Wetzlar. The watches’ exterior was conceptualized by Professor Achim Heine, who has designed numerous Leica products in the past – giving him a profound understanding of the company’s aesthetic principles.

As a result, the LEICA L1 and LEICA L2 contain subtle references to signature features from Leica’s rich history. These include, for example, the delicate design of the watch hands and applied indices, the shape of the intricate stainless-steel case, the special knurling on the crowns, and the domed watch glass that recalls the front element of a camera lens.

Both models are powered by a complete newly developed mechanical movement with manual winding. The movement is visible through the transparent back made of resilient sapphire crystal. Maintaining the ‘Made in Germany’ designation was extremely important to Leica, which is why the company entered into a partnership with Lehmann Präzision GmbH.

As a result, the movement and most of the watches’ components were developed and produced in the Lehmann factory in Germany’s Black Forest region, ensuring an exceptional level of vertical range of manufacturing.

The Leica watches are a perfect combination of design and mechanical engineering. Besides the domed front crystal and the flat transparent back made of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflective coating, both watch models are distinguished by the patented push crown and its correlating status indicator on the dial. The push crown’s ability to reset the small second hand to zero is also a unique feature and adds yet another practical purpose to this aesthetically pleasing design element.

Professor Achim Heine explains: “Together with Markus Lehmann, we expanded and fine- tuned the idea of the push crown. In contrast to conventional designs – whereby the crown must be pulled out to stop the movement and adjust the time – we wanted the crown to be pressed down, like the release button of a camera. The moment you push the crown, the watch stops and the small second hand jumps to zero. Another click releases the movement again. This is an unusual detail that perfectly fits in with Leica.”

The LEICA L1 and the LEICA L2 will be available at select Leica Stores, starting February 8, 2022*. The price is 9,500 euros for the LEICA L1, and 13,500 euros for the LEICA L2; VAT included in both cases

When we first approach Michiel to start brainstorming on a unique project, we wanted the brief to be very much influenced by our heritage, Arabic culture and strong nuances we have picked up from our local architecture, design and calligraphy.

The idea of the “الحكمة” project was to produce a very limited edition not more than 10 pieces to be offered to hand picked collectors that appreciate the art of combining new technology and modern design with local heritage – hence the result is our first unique edition with Holthinrich

The Dial Concept

The whole focus of the dial is the remarkably unique and captivating hand set. These hands will be produced by forming stainless steel and giving them a brushed finish to make them “pop” off the dial and take command, demanding attention like a famous actor on centre stage.

The supporting role of the dial background can not be underestimated. The green oxidized titanium colour scheme that is formed on a subtle relief based on the mashrabiya pattern offers a two dimensional pattern that provides an additional light play and charm.

The frosted finish on the dial surface brings a sense of romance and refinement to the overall aesthetic. Further to this there is a subtle but dramatic reference to the “15” market at 3 O’clock. The mashrabiya pattern is carefully positioned to present “15” in one of the stars.

The final feature of the dial is the delicate pad printing of the minute and seconds tracks with provides contrast and balance.

The Movement 

We are using latest movement finishing specifically for this collaboration – the finishing on the bridges includes the signature bridge design and clearly highlight the elevated edge of the plates with a contrasting polished bevels. In the higher end finishes the screw holes will be polished and create inward angles to highlight black polished screws.

The true highlight of this movement finish will be the appearance of the mashrabiya pattern on the plates between the embossed edges. There will be more depth and character to this unique casebook design – Finished with 14k gold plating.

3D printed Case

We will add a few words in Arabic along the cavity of the case with the name of each owner – the size of the case is 38mm and is made of Surgical steel 316L

The Hands

The most important feature on this design will be the hands expressly created for this project. The hands are cut out of extra thick hard en rust resistant spring steel with a satin brushed top finish and selectively bevelled by hand to make them stand out and to reflect the contrasting surfaces of the 3D printed case of the watch.

The watch has been pre-booked and is now in production with planned delivery by Dec 2021 – SHop

I have had the chance to receive one of the first prototypes of the brand last week and have been wearing it daily since. I think it’s about time for me to share with you some of my key takeaways.

But first, let’s rewind a little bit to the infamous 2020 year ! when I received a call from Hamad from KSA telling me he has something very cool and secretive he wanted to share with me and hear my thoughts.

I didn’t really know what to expect as we were speaking first on Instagram and then picked the phone up to hear the excitement in his voice explaining to me his new venture with a young watchmaker called Andrea. Now, the devious, curious man I am , I kept asking him to show me at least one picture of this watch he is so fond of…. it took him few days to accept to share with me a “disappearing” picture of the watch – meaning I get a sneak peak and it disappears.

Few months down the road , I started seeing the real pictures of the prototypes with diverse dials, silver, black, grey and of course my favourite Havana salmon. The idea was shaping up pretty well and what stroke me the most was the anticipated price point – I couldn’t believe that watch is going to be on Kickstarter for USD 330 for early birds. I thought to myself maybe they will cut corners or reduce quality to meet that price point.

So Hamad sent me the Havana edition to see it up close and enjoy it on my wrist –  I must say: Wooww!! Let me tell you why.

For a watch at this price point, the designers have really put a lot of attention to details – whether it was the curved, domed hands in tempered blued steel with a beautiful polish or the engraved ends pushers with a sun pattern or « Tasti Tondi » as they might be called, or even the delicately well curved lugs on that thin case.

More than that, the pusher’s pattern has a small step to better control the polishing of the element. This step is also found on the decagonal screwed caseback, again to better control the finish between circular brush and polish finish.

Now let’s look at the dial; look closely and you realize the various type of finishing from the fine microblasting to lacquer. One comment I had on the inner “salmon” dial color, I would have liked to see it lighter and more salmoni than brownish.

The indexes are a mix of Roman numerals 12 and 6, and the batton indexes all finished by a CNC process for a better polishing finishing.

Inside, the case back has a « perlage » finish and is engraved with the seal of the brand and the case manufacturer. Each main element has its own reference number: the dials, the bracelet buckles, the main case or the case back.

Even the strap choice was made with care – the light havana greyish leather strap is very soft and light to wear – also it fits perfectly the color of the dial and the full look of the watch – I am really glad they didn’t take the simple , easy way with just another black calf skin strap.

For some, my next piece of information might come as a disappointment , but let’s bare in mind : Rome was not build in One day!!! so  the first collections will all be limited edition meca-quartz chronographs (two of the references will no longer be reproduced after the campaign).

I know we all are eager to have that manual winding vintage chronograph feel that would have complemented this watch to reach Horo-perfection; but then again at USD330, you can’t expect to have the world!! but don’t worry because their second edition is going to be mechanical.

The watches are going to be sold on kickstarter on March 10th and I believe from my latest conversations with the founders, they are expecting between 1,000 to 4,000 watches for their first batch of orders.

Having said that, in my opinion, in today’s watch industry and at this competitive price point; we are looking at a very strong contestant in the Micro-brand watch industry. I do expect an increase in pricing for the next releases, but also definitely a step up in your money’s worth.

The series, which is now available across the region, includes two watches with a military green dial and one with a striking blue dial.

Available in a series of 100 pieces, the Aviator 8 Chronograph 43 Middle East Limited Edition features a military green dial with a matte finish and tone-on- tone subdials. Its black nickel-plated hour and minute hands, as well as the large Eastern Arabic numerals on the dial, are coated with Super-LumiNova®, whose luminescence makes them easy to read wherever your adventures might take you.

Powered by a proven mechanical movement, the Breitling Caliber 13, the precision and outstanding performance of the Aviator 8 Chronograph 43 Middle East Limited Edition are guaranteed. Presented on a green leather military strap, this COSC-certified chronometer is water resistant to 10 bar (100 meters) and has a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.

The Breitling Aviator 8 Automatic 41 Middle East Limited Edition

The Aviator 8 Automatic 41 Middle East Limited Edition, has a military green dial and is presented on a green leather military strap. The hour and minute hands, as well as the bold Eastern Arabic numerals on the dial, are coated with durable Super-LumiNova®, which ensures optimal legibility even in low-light conditions. The watch features a bi-directional rotating bezel featuring a subtle– yet vibrant – red pointer and a central seconds hand that also has a touch of red at its tip. The DLC-coated stainless steel case of 41 millimeters houses a Breitling Caliber 17, which offers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.

The Aviator 8 Automatic 41 Middle East Limited Edition is available in a series of 250 pieces and benefits from the chronometer certification, ensuring reliability and precision.

The Breitling Aviator 8 41 Middle East Limited Edition

The Aviator 8 Automatic 41 Middle East Limited Edition makes a style statement. It is clearly a direct descendent of Breitling’s legendary watches from the 1930s and 1940s. Inside the DLC-coated steel case with its rotating bezel and pointer is the Breitling Caliber 17. With a bidirectional rotor winder, it delivers approximately 38 hours of power reserve. The striking blue dial which showcases the Eastern Arabic numberals is available on a black or blue leather strap. The 41 mm COSC-certified chronometer has a solid screwed caseback and is available in a series of 250 pieces.
