The GWG-2000 is the latest addition to the MUDMASTER series of watches with a dust- and mud-resistant structure designed for use in land environments with lots of dirt, sand, mud, dust, or rubble. For the first time in a G-SHOCK watch, the new GWG-2000 employs forged carbon, a material that is used in aircraft and racing cars.

Forged carbon is a special type of carbon fiber-reinforced resin, a material that is lighter than and has tensile strength superior to stainless steel. With its ability to be pressed into complex shapes, forged carbon is used for the lug connecting the bezel to the band on both sides, structurally protecting the watch face.

Forged carbon is made by kneading fine particles of carbon fiber into resin, which is then forged in a press die at high temperature and pressure. Viewed from certain angles, fine carbon particles are visible on the surface, forming a random black and gray pattern that not only looks appealing but is truly one of a kind.

The watch also features newly developed Mud Resist buttons throughout. The combination of stainless steel button pipes and internal silicone buffer material, which not only absorbs shock but provides a tight seal, ensures even better dust- and mud-resistant performance.

The case is made from lightweight, durable carbon fiber-reinforced resin. The materials and structure have been rearranged to make the case 1.9 mm slimmer than the previous model*. Inspired by professional gear, the band is textured in the style of the no-slip rubber grips seen on specialized vehicles and heavy machinery, and the buttons are knurled for better control, making for a highly functional, powerful tool. The GWG-2000 is available in three colors: stoic monochrome gray, military-look khaki, and sand beige.

For this reason, we decided to collaborate with Gshock and design a special watch with the support of 2 local designers in Dubai: Diaa who is a calligrapher and Stephany who is a Digital artist competed head to head to design a strap for our special edition watch and You were the judges by voting on the design that suited you best.

The winning design will be produced in a short limited edition with 30% of proceeds donated for a local charity COVID19 program.

We launched the competition on Monday 18th of May on my instagram account and the official Gshock Middle East account from 6pm till midnight collecting all of you votes which totaled over 3,000 participtants by the end of the day.

The competition between both designs was fierce and kept alternating between 50/50 and 49/51 until the last hour of the competition and when we added votes from both our accounts the final ruling went to Diaa’s design.

The winning design is not going to be produced by Gshock in a limited quantity of 30 watches only that are pre-sold on our website (link)

We will be donating 30% of all proceeds to a charity foundation that is fighting COVID19 pandemic.

A very unique take on the Gshock GM-5600B specially redesigned for the Arab Watch Guide shop.

The inspiration behind the model is a throwback to the Damascene Mosaic art in furniture and architecture; a continuation of the current theme on our website bringing all the arabic design elements inherited from Syria into the modern world of horology.

The strap has a unique pattern of Mozaic that you usually find in many objects found in Syrian homes such as wooden tables, chairs, tableware, art pieces …

We decided to stick to the main colors usually used in Mozaic, mainly the blue, white, beige and black to create our unique pattern for this edition.

The edition is limited to only 30 that will be produced one time off and sold exclusively on the AWG shop.

In June 2018, I set up my first meeting with the Gshock team in Dubai , discussing the possibility of breaking all rules and creating a  one off edition of a small run that will be only sold to the Arab Watch Club members.

The idea was so well taken by the team and with much enthusiasm, we have started together developing the first project of its kind where we took an original 35th anniversary GMW-B5000D-1JF and decided to re-customise it to have an AWC feel.

I have commissioned a Saudi calligrapher to write for us a sentence in his own unique way ,which we will later on use as the main design for this edition – that sentence is printed on the rubber dial of each watch saying ” لا تغيب عني طويلاً ثم تسأل عني فالحكايات تموت مع الوقت “.

You will notice also that on the bezel of the watch  we have engraved on the top our club name and on the bottom “One of 50”.. that engraving was one of the most challenging task of the project as all of these Gshock models have Bluetooth in them and it is very important to keep it intact from any engraving work. Which required us to dismantle the cases and bezels from the original watches , laser engrave them and then reassemble the watches.

The second tricky element of the project was the calligraphy printing on the rubber strap. As this was the first time to explore such design, the team had to commission several suppliers to test which output is up to the required standards and will not fade away after a few washes or dips in the sea!!!

Luckily we were able to get the right suppliers on time before our launch in Tokyo… Ahh well you are wondering what I am talking about!!!

Well that was the cherry on the cake as this was the primordial part of the project where we decided to launch our edition in Tokyo-Japan whilst inviting the members to visit the manufacture and meet the founder of Gshock IBE San.. but you will hear all about this in another article 🙂

This is the first of several collaborations we are launching with Gshock Middle East – our next project is a Charity project that remains one of our yearly pillars in the club – as you know we started last year with a collaboration with Zayed foundation in Abudhabi, where we designed and sold 50 special edition watches to the public and donated the proceeds to the charity foundation.

This year , we will go even bigger and create a larger special edition watch in collaboration with Gshock with the same concept of raising awareness and funds to a local charity in Dubai.
