Today, Renaud Tixier brings to a close a triptych begun last year with the launch of the Blue, entirely spoken for upon its unveiling. The Monday Organica now appears in Black and Bordeaux. These two creations, each limited to seven pieces, are the final lines of the same story: that of a dial conceived as an organic landscape, within which, for those who know how to look, the components of calibre RVI2023 can be discerned.
The Organica trilogy
Monday Organica expresses one and the same gesture in three colours. The dial motif, an intricate organic composition inspired by the forms of the living world, is in fact derived from the curves of three components of the RVI2023 calibre. It is therefore a work with two levels of interpretation: the first artistic, the second mechanical, without either one ever exhausting the other.
Yesterday, Blue; today, Black and Bordeaux: three expressions of the same composition. Each is limited to seven pieces – a number of particular significance to Renaud Tixier and a reference to the six creations still to come, each, too, associated with a day of the week. Monday Organica: three colours, seven pieces each – the arithmetic of a Maison devoted to the rarity of exceptional pieces.
The name Organica was chosen for its most obvious association: an organic motif, a botanical form. Yet traced back to its origins, the word belongs to a vocabulary that watchmaking has always used to designate the heart of its own mechanisms. It is this coincidence, more than the floral resemblance of the design, that deserves to be explored.
Organica, the fusion of the mechanical and the living
Organica descends from the Greek organon, itself derived from ergon, meaning work or action. It was organon that gave French the words “organe” and “orgue”: the organ of the body and the musical instrument have shared the same name ever since. This suggests that the Greeks did not separate what lives from what serves.
The Monday Organica embodies this duality between the living world and the exceptional tool. Through its new iterations—Monday Organica Black and Monday Organica Bordeaux—it evokes two powerful symbolic worlds: the root and the fruit.
Monday Organica Black: a root laid bare
In watchmaking, black traditionally appears in stone: a polished onyx plate, chosen because its purity has already been achieved by nature. For the Monday Organica Black, Ateliers Olivier Vaucher made a more daring choice: to obtain this black in grand feu enamel, a technique notoriously difficult with this shade. Without the relief of an engraved decoration to distract the eye, the slightest bubble or inclusion would be immediately visible. This black conceals nothing; it stands exposed, with nothing to hide.
The parallel with the Organica design then becomes self-evident. If the Blue revealed a blossoming, the Black invites us to read what, in every plant, remains beneath the earth and out of sight: the root system, the foundation, the invisible part without which nothing above could flower. The cool white platinum case encloses this design within a setting that belongs to no season.
Monday Organica Bordeaux: the colour of a fruit that took its time
This second colour emerged as a deep and mature Bordeaux. Within the logic of Organica, if Blue evoked the blossom and Black the hidden root, Bordeaux recalls the fruit left to ripen – and the lees settling at the bottom of the cask: the richest part of the wine, the slowest to form, and one that only time can produce. The Monday Organica Bordeaux case’s 5N rose gold warms the hue further still.
A continuing dialogue, rather than an event to celebrate
The Monday Organica remains a creation shaped by four hands. Ateliers Olivier Vaucher, whose expertise in métiers d’art applied to the dial is beyond question, continues a dialogue with Dominique Renaud that began many years ago.
Rarity and availability
Like the Monday Organica Blue before them, the Monday Organica Black and Monday Organica Bordeaux are each limited to seven pieces, reserved for a select circle of discerning collectors.
